For hunting applications under 100yds, the red-dot is far away my favorite. Much better in low light or heavy woods and cover.

I don't have a 44 mag, so no first hand experience.

IIRC, there were several feedbacks at midwayusa on red-dots that folks put on 44s. Might be a good place to look at prices and owner feedback.

I have bought several of the Millett red-dots and have been very happy with them. They are all on hard recoiling guns (not 44s, though), and none have any problems holding zero. Am fixing to order another soon.

Ultradots have a good rep. I have two of them. They are pricey, and the newer ones have had problems with astigmatism through the optics. If you shoot with both eyes open it will drive you crazy and make you crosseyed. The other brand I have (and like) is ProPoint. I have some of the low cost BSA units and they are junk.

I have been playing with an EOtech on my 629 off and on for a couple years. Haven't had any problems as yet. Anyone else use an EOtech?

I've been playing with both. I've got several Ultradot products and like them along some cheaper Millets. The problem I have is that the dots are too big. I mostly shoot at paper targets and the dots cover about 4" on the target. But I do like their size.
I recently got a couple of 2x scopes and they are much more precise - but the scope itself is a lot bigger.
I wish I could get a 2x scope with a 1" tube that is about 4" long. It's probably contrary to the laws of optics but I can dream.

I have several of the older made in Japan Tasco Pro-Point PDP3's that have performed flawlessly over the years. One is on a 629 4". It still has a perfectly round dot and has always maintained its zero. I also have an Ultradot Pan-AV on a 625. While lighter than the Pro-Points, I seem to pick up the dot on the Tasco a bit faster. I prefer 2x scopes on distances of 50 yards out. Weigand bases on most everything.........just my 2 cents!
