red dot scope for 617

I tried a Jpoint years ago.
Darned thing didn't have enough elavation to be zeroed.
Had to use their "wedges".
That one went into the junk box, too.

If you want a reflex sight, it seems the fastfire is a winner.
If you want the tubular style, I have become a die hard vortex fan. I have a couple of Vortex SPARCs. one of them is on my ruger 22/45 and its perfect. If I wanted my 617 set up with a red dot, I would buy another in a heartbeat for it.

I've actually had good success with mine at the range on a 657 and 69. Currently on the 69 and seeing limited time in the deer woods. Still too bright a dot, but it'll do until it gets retired.

The Trijicon RMR is theoretically better, but I haven't warmed up to it all that well. It's on the 625PP. Window's too blue, compared to the JPoint.

Thinking a Fastfire III is the next thing to try. Wonder if there's an adaptor for the JPoint mount?

I just picked up the Bushnell tr25, not impressed with it at all. Must be set to 11 the highest setting to get a decent dot. The windage and elevation adjustment is so far off it's pathetic. Looks like it may need to be shimmed to use. Nope back it goes, my search continues.

I have noticed the Allchin doesn't retain zero as well as the JP Enterprises combo. But it's only a concern with those microreddots that require removal to change/clean the battery. Had that minor drama with a Fastfire II on a 625. Had a perfect 75 zero but lost the windage a bit when the light went out. (Cleaned the battery and it was fine.)

But the JPoint reddot is just too dadgummed bright in all light levels unless you are shooting white targets in direct sun...Errrf! 'Cuz i likes it very well otherwise. (The JPoint and also the Allchin, too.)

They redesigned the Fastfire III so you can change the battery without removing it.

Yah, that is a bonus. But since they don't make a S&W mount, life's not all beer and skittles. JP lists a Docter Optic adaptor, but would it interface with the Burris?

JP Rifles

I guess the Allchin would be fine mated to the FF III, but looking to utilize the JP mount as it's super nice. If their JPoint was as good as the mount it would be a no-brainer...

The newer Allchin "Mini" is the base I'd get. It's smaller and lower than the other older style Allchin mounts shown in this thread. Add copy says it fits the Burris FF.

New S&W Mini STS Scope Mount - Allchin Gun Parts

That's the version that i got not long ago. May just put a FF III on it and call it done. Then figure out what to do with the FF II with it's bottom feed battery compartment. The JPoint has it's JP mount, the RMR has it's Trijicon mount, and since Burris doesn't do a S&W revolver mount there's not much better than the Allchin.
