I always considered Red Dot to fast for the 357. I like to use it for 38 Spl wadcutters.

I checked my 1973 Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook and they don't list loads for Red Dot in 357 - only 38 Spl.

My 1973 Hornady manual lists the following max loads:
125 JHP - 7.7gr. Red Dot - 1300fps
158 lead RN - 6.5 gr. Red Dot - 1200fps

Here's some data for the .357 Mag.

Just make sure you start low and work your way up. ;)

I have loaded 100's of rounds with R Dot under 158 gr cast SWC's with great results. I used Alliant's data and well under max listed. this is for 'target/practice' loads but still you know it's a .357. around 1000fps.
I did load 50 rounds to max data w/R Dot for my nephews mdl 28 6" bbl as he is going to carry for hog-hunt back-up pistol. he hasn't tryed any yet so no report.
