Reloading for Military-type autoloaders in .308

Trim; I use a Dillon. I gauge cases after trimming and repeat with the loaded rounds. I've used standard commercial primers with these loads foe a long time, zero issues. Single stage press, RCBS SB dies. Same exact procedures for .30-06, 7.62 and 5.56.

It's all in the details.

When shooting service rifle,
Remember safety and function should come before accuracy.
The National Match m14/m1a with good ammo should shoot the xring out to 600 yards all day. Most people will lose more matches to malfunctions then to inaccurate ammunition. When I competed I used small base RCBS dies for function and Winchester large rifle primers, 168 hpbt with h4895.
With this load I could clean a 600 yard target, if you shoot 1000 yards switch to the 175 hpbt, 168s drop subsonic out to 1000.

Try it, shoot Service Rifle, shoot local matches go to Camp Perry, it's good fun and the people are great!

Once again, Scott Z's information is spot on....like him, I too am Distinguished Rifleman through the DCM and made Master in NRA High Power Service Rifle using my M1A...using the very reloading information he and I offered.

I feed my two FALs and Fulton Armory match M1 with 45gr of 4064 over a CCI #35 primer and 150gr FMJ just for giggles. The STG58 and M1 will keep those around 2 MOA with irons. I processed the milsurp brass and use RCBS X dies with zero problems. YMMV, & may cause cancer in chain-smoking lab rats.

42.0 gr 4064 with 168/175 SMK or any match (Hornady/Nosler) 2.81" COL LC brass in my M1A Loaded

With M1s, you want to stay with medium burners like 4895 or equiv & load well off the top end to prevent op rod damage. The Hornady section is pretty spot on.
