I was walking in the clinic hallways late the other night. Someone had left the T.V. on and heard a very familiar voice emanating as though it were yesterday and it brought back many memories of long ago years.
The voice belonged to the Rev. Billy Graham delivering one of his sermons to the 1960's America. I stopped, watched and admire a youthful Rev.Graham deliver his message. Even if you don't believe in religion one would have to give high marks on his delivery, oratory, and passion. I observed the crowds, how we looked, dressed etc. Wow have we but ever changed.
Does anyone exist in todays political or religious evironment that comes close to the presence this man once held in America?? I haven't seen nor heard one. Could we ever use one now. When I spoke to the 20's crowd they asked who is Billy Graham?
I usually kid the young boys during their appt. asking if they are holding up the tradition of being " Texas boys", running the fields, bean flippers, fishing, hunting, horse riding, bull riding etc etc. and shocked to find not many exist.
The final straw was yesterday when a 12 yr. old red headed wide eye boy was worried about getting his bigtoe numbed up to remove part of a ingrown toenail. I told him he should be thankful modern medicine has numbing medicine. During the western days of cowboys and indians John Wayne had to bite on a stick or bullet to get his wounds taken care of, the reply, WHO IS JOHN WAYNE!!!!
I need a drink......
