Renewing my California C&R gets me...?

I just received the renewal notice for my C&RFFL. To date, the only advantage for me was taking direct shipment of an old Stevens shotgun. For all handguns, every nitpicking (expensive) hoop is the same as for a non 03 holder.

Does anyone know of any advantage to renewing this bit of paper?

None of the California hoops when you are traveling. I vowed to bring a gun home from every out of state trip this year. Only place I couldn't complete the mission was my two trips to DC. I made up for that with my trips to NM, brought home double on the NM trips.

The 03 works great east of the Colorado.

Get a Calif. Certificate of Convenience ( COE) from the DOJ to go with your C&R and you are exempt from the 10 day wait and the one gun a month problem, plus as said above it's a "pay your money & walk with the gun" in every other state, just be sure if the seller is BATF licensed to get a copy of their license for your bound book.

As opoefc indicated make sure you have a California COE (Certificate of Eligibility) to go with the C&R !

Sorry, senior moment! I meant to say Certificate of Eligibilty ( COE). It's such a convient thing to have, although not cheap, that I get used to thinking of it as a cert. fo Convience! Application for a COE can be downloaded from the CA. DOJ website.

I must say the DOJ processed my COE request instantly and it was delivered in less than two weeks. The BATF took five months to get my C&R processed ! The two documents make life much easier here in CA !

My COE just came up for renewal recently. I had filled out the online form and printed it, intending to send but the State sent me a modified renewal form. I sent my check and received my new COE in one week. I must say I was impressed.

Can C&R handguns be shipped into CA directly to a C&R holder?

Unfortunately, no. The State requires C&R handguns to ship through an 01FFL. C&R rifles, as I understand, can ship to the C&R holder.
