"repaired"gun was returned completely unusable

Well I saw the video and thought it was hastily done and I haven't seen anything wrong with the pistol other than the fact the cylinder wasn't closed all the way.

I just duplicated the exact same thing right now on my 686. I closed the cylinder, but not all the way and left a 1/16" gap in the yoke and looked at it from above and from the front and it looked identical to the OP's first pics. Even identical to the one pic of what looks like a off centered cylinder when viewed from above.. Also, the guy is appearing to attempt to turn the cylinder by hand stating that the cylinder won't turn. but the thing is, S&W cylinders won't turn with the hammer down or back. They're locked in place by the Cylinder lock...

I'll be fair and give the OP benefit of the doubt and say that the ball detent in the yoke is sticking thus preventing the cylinder from closing all the way...

in the video i as just trying to convey it was locked in place. literally i cant open or close it. it will take a soft hammer to open it and i did not want to hurt it even more. i am aware that it shouldnt turn while in the condition you stated above although i didnt realize i said that in the video.. the cylinder is bent to the left too. i got an email saying it has been checked in and they are working on it. i have no doubt that they will make this right.

Mister D, it sounds like yer on the right path here as to getting her right again. Looking at the pic's you posted I tend to agree that something might have happened during shipping as I can't picture that gun leaving S&W like that!! That yoke though look's definitely bent and for the life of me I can't picture just what could've done that as that's some fairly high strength steel used in the manufacture of the gun...

Please keep us posted, Good Luck, and Thanks for posting about this!!!

This is now almost a month with no update. Still work in progress or did it just die off?

Nah it takes forever to get a gun back. SWT sends you an email they received it then it's pitch dark until delivery notice in email occurs. Then you get the "Attempted Delivery" notice on a wide open screen door and have to go to gun free zone to get your gun back.

I have been doing S&W guns for 40+ years, and the service department always comes through.

I suspect they will for you also. I understand your frustration, but I predict S&W will take care of you.

Agree: I suggest that the gun be sent in to S&W for repair. No sense to have folks speculating on what may be wrong with it. Some knowledgeable people have posted some likely causes of the issue, but a thing like this is difficult to isolate. Good luck; I'm sure you'll be pleased in the end :):)

So the good news is I got my gun back perfectly functional this time. As I stated before I'm quite busy and don't have a lot of time to do this stuff. Nor do I type out on forums everyday. This time they replace the gas ring replace the cylinder stop and then says code not listed. But like I said the gun came back perfect as it should have the first time

Wow ! A newbie comes to us to share a story. Frustrated, yes.

But attack the messenger if he doesn't live on this forum every day? Question his motives? Not good.

And "regulars" counseled him on how to be nice to support. and he then gets called a Troll on here.

It's one thing to catch a Troll and call them out.
But how are we to survive if we treat each other like this?

I'm surprised he's still here.

thank you. I've chosen not to respond to people who think I'm trolling. It's a waste of my time frankly. Thank you to all to had kind words and to those who didn't, enjoy the rest of your day as well cuz you won't get a response from me.

Well said.

Yay....

A huge bolt of lightning took me off the net for a while. I'm glad to come back and see this resolved.

Getting done right or even done at all nowadays is like pulling teeth. It's getting that way more and more. I'm relieved that the factory came through on this one.
