Replaced M&P Shield .45 Followers

I have about 440 rounds through my Shield .45 without any mag drops. As this is my EDC, I'm a bit concerned now after reading about this. Should I go ahead and get some new followers, even tho I'm not having the problem? Am I good to go since it hasn't happened yet?

How widespread is the mag drop problem?

440...me too. 500ish through both.

You havent had ANY FTL issue? I HAVE noticed occasionally that the mag needed reseating or popped out. Wifey too. We just wrote it off to the fact that we might have nicked the release button. Now Im not so sure.

Without ANY mag drops? You sure?;)

Widespread problem? Not really.

But there IS a problem...and the solution is Rachel :D

(just spoke to her again on "chat" and got Fedex tracking from her...followers be here tommorrow) :D

Yes- its all just one big internet Myth that we started a few months ago to try to make S&W broke by having them send us new followers. So far our evil plan has worked- I estimate that if we add up Material and shipping costs of all of them sent out we have at least screwed S&W out of $100- mission accomplished!

Seriously just call them until you get someone who is aware of the issue- maybe ask for a supervisor if you get resistance.
 
They are quick to pick up on chat.

I just tried again and got Brett. Hung up on him.

I usually hit it up around 9am and I have gotten Rachel everytime. Luck of the draw.

Just spoke to her again this morning.

I think I would call...tell them your already working on a problem with Rachel and would be glad to wait on her or leave a call back.

....or, just hit chat, and hang up till ya get Rachel.

Best I can do man!!!

(I guess you could gimme your ph# and I could have her call ya :D )

Nope, not even one FTE or FTF and no mag drops. The only problem I had was after the first time I took it to the range. The RSA came apart when I disassembled it for cleaning.
 
I tried getting on chat a couple of times today. Didn't work. Chat was too busy, it said, and sent me to their e-mail page. Haven't heard back yet.

Did U look at the pic and figure out if ur mags have the good or bad followers. No need to order new ones if u already have the good ones.

LOL! I just got my 45 shield 45 a few months ago. Looks like I have the non updated followers.

Looks like I need me some Rachael too.:rolleyes:

Yes, the two that came with it and the three I ordered from Quantico Tactical are not grooved. The Shield was purchased in April, this year.

The build date on the box of my Shield 45 is 3-7-17 and it still had the old style followers.
 
Bag of mythical creatures showed up on my doorstep today. They were lonely. I had to take them in and give them a good home.

Ok...had to edit that. mightve been little strong. Some "guy" at S&W doesnt have a clue what he is talkin about.

There we go. Thats better. ;)

...and Rachel definitely wins the day!!!

Thanks for the pic and explanation. I put about 120 rounds through my new Shield 45 last week and had no problems. Was wondering if it would pop up, but your explanation shows that my gun came with the new followers.

Went on the chat...Brett wanted me to send my mags back for replacement (2 to 4 weeks) or order replacement followers (on backorder, no idea when they will be in). I've tried 4 or 5 times to get someone else and keep getting Brett. Guess I'll keep trying!
 
I sent mine to S&W because of the mag dropping issue. They sent it back with the new followers. They work as they should. No mag drops after shooting 100 rounds with one hand and with two hands.
 
Should be six digits not separated by slashes or dashes just above the line that says your model name, on mine it's the second line of the label.

I finally got in touch with Rachel. She told me they are on backorder, took my info, and placed an order for me. I just bought the gun early this week and haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. Looking forward to getting to the range this weekend (hopefully)!
 
I spoke to Brett 2 days ago and told him about the magazine dropping out.

He replied "I've never heard of that issue. Unfortunately, the followers are on back order".

Funny, I didn't mention followers to him. He had never heard of the issue but knew exactly what the fix was? Pretty awful Customer Service, if you ask me.

Nonetheless, they are on order for my 45 and hopefully it fixes the really annoying issue. I thought it's been user error for a few months.

I spoke to "Brett" a week ago and specifically explained this issue. He should of been a politician. Wonder how he can say these things with a straight face. Why lie to your customers who are paying your salary.

Had not had a problem but thought I would get the new ones. Got on chat, Rachel was my rep, quick discussion, gave name and address and got an order number! Did say they were on backorder but it's not my EDC so I told her no problem.

I have 6 magazines with the old follower as of today 800 rnds and no mag drop. After reading this thread I contacted Smith on live chat and got Brett. After telling him I heard they have a upgraded and redesigned follower and I wanted 6, He said he can put in for an order for 6 but they are currently out of stock.
You all must've retrained Brett because it was a no hassle chat.
Also I had him check on my order for replacement Recoil Spring assemblies for the 45 Shield and Also the 9 Shield and they was sent out FedEx 6-28-17 and tracking shows its still in Ohio for some reason.
Only problem I have with the RSA is the 45 seems kinda loose when you put it back together after cleaning but hasnt caused any problems.
If Smith and Wesson is giving out free parts I may as well get some!

Just fired my new Shield 45 PC yesterday for the first time and experienced these same mag drops. I thought at first it was a training issue with my thumb placement but remained puzzled since I don't have this problem with my Shield 9. Once I saw this post, looked at the followers in my mags and saw they were the old style, I knew it wasn't me. New followers are in the mail from S&W as we speak. FYI, I asked Jarred (spelling?) at S&W if I should ask for four replacements instead of two since I qualified for the Perfect Summer Hideaway promotion with this purchase which includes two more magazines. The answer was no, the mags coming with the promotion already have had the fix installed.

Well this is ****. I've had em on order since June 22 as they told me they are on back order with idea when they will get em yet they are mailing some to u today. I just get more and more fed up with this company.
