I'm looking for feedback on these aftermarket full-size 9mm magazines:

Mec-Gar 17-round

Pro-Mag 15-round

I've about given up looking for new factory mags and am curious if folks have had any experiences with the two types above, good or bad. They're all I can find for sale locally. Thanks!

Mecgar is good stuff. They make factory mags for a lot of gun manufacturers. I'd stay away from ProMag. They are a 50/50. If you can't get s&w go with Mecgar.

Sorry my phone auto corrects Mec-Gar to McGear

While I've not used MecGar's in a 3rd Gen S&W, I have used them in other guns, and they were exceptional.

My limited experience with Pro-Mags led me to believe they weren't worth even the low price I paid (but it's been a long time.)

I get mine from keepshooting.com. I have a half-dozen of them and they work perfectly. In fact, when I put them side-by-side with my factory mags I can't tell which is which. They're identical. Unfortunately they are presently out of stock - that's the first time I've seen that.

Haven't tried a MecGar, but I have tried ProMag. They were terrible.

As others have said Mec-Gar mags. are good and lots of manfs. use them. sig, Beretta, and others I don't know about.

I hear lot's of complaints on other boards about Pro-Mag.

Well, it sounds pretty much unanimous. I'll try some of the Mec-Gars, and keep my eyes peeled for some decent used factory mags as well. Thanks.

Mec-Gar makes high quality magazines (they're the factory mags for a number of gun companies).

Pro-Mags aren't heavy enough to make good door stops, though.

Why not bite the bullet and buy S&W factory mags? The magazine is at the very heart of reliable and optimal pistol feeding and functioning. Not really the place to start cutting corners ...

FWIW, this is why I don't buy "used" mags, either. I've seen more than my fair share of folks drop mags onto hard surfaces, seeing them land on the mag lips. (LE mags can get abused quite a bit, especially since cops may neglect or even abuse mags that don't cost them anything as issued equipment.)

Stay with S&W Factory Mags or Mec-Gar Mags! Check out CDNN as they often offer factory, new & used, and Mec-Gar mags at reasonable prices. As always, be sure to shop around, as prices can very greatly. I've been disappointed by many aftermarket brand mags other than Mec-Gar.

I have never had a problem with a Mec-Gar magazine, and have used both the 15 and 17 round 3rd generation magazines.

My rock island 1911 came with Mec-Gar mags. Bought me a third one because they worked so well.

Mec-Gars are awesome! Plus 1 for CDNN, their prices are very good. I found mags for my 6690 for about $13 used and $20 new. That beats new prices by about $22. Good Luck in your search. :)
