Replacement sites on M&P 40c

I am an older guy with poor eyesight. I have one pair of glasses I use at the range that work OK but are not set up for shooting. They are just a mid range prescription I use for working on the computers all day. I have a M&P 40c that I carry. I practice with this gun often but have never really liked the sights on it. I can shoot it fairly well out to around 20 yards. Not as well as I want but it is a defense gun not a target gun.

I picked up a Colt Competition 70 which has a front fiber optic and a Novak rear sight. Wow what a difference in target acquisition! My groups and speed of getting a good sight picture are night and day between it and the Smith. I do have a GI 1911 with GI sights that shoots well but again the sights on the GI are.. How do you say? AWFUL.

Back to my Smith. I am thinking of replacing the sights with something with a wider notch in the rear and a bright front sight. I was looking at the Tru-glows but not sure if they would be what I want.

What have others with old eyes found to work well for the M&P 40c?

Dawson precision makes great sights for the m&p. They even have a perfect impact policy. Where if your gun/load doesn't shoot poa/poi. With your new sights. You measure out 20 yards shoot a group give them the info and they replace your sight with a sight made to shoot poa/poi. No one else offers this . So really you can't go wrong.

Just looked at the Dawson, they look great and so many choices. Fiber or tritium? Also not sure where a cowittness would work with this? I guess I could replace just the front with either a fiber(good daytime but not good at night. Maybe tritium to see how I like it.

And I'm doing just that. I just ordered a Dawson F.O. front sight for my M&P .40 using a digital caliper to get it as close to the original in height.

As our eyesight inevitably gets worse with age, you might consider giving up on irons and go with one of the new compact red dot sights or green lasers or at least give them a try if you haven't already.

I have the same issues with sight , I ended up having Ameriglo I Dot sights installed on my shield and they are awsome bright green luminescent large ring surrounds the tritium insert up front and the rear has a U notch with a tritium inset below the notch.Fast and great sight picture.The Tru Glo sights are great but will cut your sight radius down a little ,I'm having Tru Glo Tfx pros installed on my F/S 2.0 this weekend.

I have Ameriglo I dot on my Shield and just ordered Ameriglo cap sights for my M&p 9.

was going to post, but here it is, I think...wondering if Red dot & micro red dot sights - or Truglo TFX Pro Sights would help aging eyes on my M&P shield 2.0 and 2.0 compact.

Tell me about Dawson that everyone talks about...thanks

As I rounder 50, I started to struggle with sights too. I found most Tritium night sights harder to see in the daytime than plain black and/or 3 dots. I really like the TFO's where night sights are warranted and now run them on 4 of my M&P carry/ house guns. Great brightness and contrast day or night. They come in one basic height/width combo though so choices are limited. That said, for my range guns, it's hard to beet Dawson's fiber optics. Very bright, Tons of sizing options and 1/2 the cost of the TFO's.

I EDC the same gun as the OP, a 40C. And I have the same aging eyes issues. I found the Truglo TFX pro's fixed the issues pretty well for me. In good light or dark, they really pop. And the orange front sight ring makes them much more usable in low light conditions.

Just looked at the TFX PRO sights. These seem to have the best of both worlds fiber and tritium. Plus a nice big orange ring. Pricey but might be worth it. I do like Dawson's perfect impact policy though. I hate a gun that does not do POA/POI.

That was my thought, too. I like 3 dot sights, and I could not find any other f/r sight combo that had all that the TFX Pro sights had to offer.

I have the Ameriglo Pro I-dot's on my 9c and couldn't be happier. My groupings are better. My target acquisition is better. I can find my sight easier in low light situations. My 9c has a Crimson laser site which since I have had the Ameriglo sights on I very rarely if ever turn them on.

I do like the I dot setup I had a chance to try them and will say it was very fast and accurate. Stacking 2 dots is simpler . I mainly shoot suppressor sights however I would like a set for my edc 9c . Heine sights which are top shelf. Actually make a few I dot setups for the m&p that are very nice wit tritium etc... In case anyone is interested.
