Help! I joined this forum a few years ago. I just bought a S&W 22lr 617-5. I didn't like the look of the lock hole. So I took the bolt out to install the lock delete plug. How do I reinstall the bolt with the plunger and spring installed. I've launched the plunger a few times, but I've always been able to find it. I need to know how to do it the right way before I lose the plunger or the spring or both.

Thanks in advance,

Mick

First, install the bolt without the plunger and spring so you know how far down the front has to go before it hits the hole and how level it needs to be. Then, install spring and plunger and install level while keeping the plunger compressed as far as possible while pushing down and maybe a small screwdriver blade at plunger to keep it compressed as it works down against the frame. Some are very tight and some are not.

Helpful hint. Some people do stuff like this inside a big plastic sack so if they launch a part they don't risk loosing it. I use a big cardboard box with the bottom seams duct taped.

The spring on the lock fork
The small spring for DA sear
sight elevation or wind age nut plunger and spring
The spring that works a CA thumb piece,

etc etc
