I want to replace the sites on my 29-3 with meprolights if I can. I have an astigmatism and the night sights help with sight aquisition in all light conditions. My question is, has anyone replaced their red ramp insert on the front sight with the meprolight? I see they make one to replace the red ramp insert but from the picture it does not seem like it will fit the same as the original insert does...it looks to be a different shape. It might be that the bottom of the meprolight sight is the same shape, and it actually would protrude out from the ramp...not really sure. If anyone has installed the meprolight sight in place of the red ramp insert and can post a picture of what the finished product looks like that would help me decide if I wanted to go this route or not.

Have several-done a dozen or two.

The front red ramp replacement insert, even in full lighting, gives a "patridge" target type of sight profile that's far easier to use. Couple the front inserts 90 degree top and sides, with the .015" wider than OEM rear notch and definition becomes easier. I have astigmatism in my r/eye also and I know the wider notch helps.
HOWEVER!
Don't make the mistake of thinking the Tritium vials show up at anytime other than in low light? Till low light, they'll appear as a standard 3 dot set up. If what your looking for is daytime shooting ease, you may be better served with a fiber optic front? If that dash has a replaceable pinned in front blade?

Thanks Spot, unfortunately my gun doesn't have a pinned front sight...just the fixed sight with the red plastic insert. I had the meprolights on my Glock 30 and they worked great for me. My biggest concern was how the front sight would fit in place of the red ramp insert. It looks like it will protrude off the ramp considerably and make for an easy thing for hangups coming out of a holster. It will be mainly used for hunting so I don't need a super speedy draw but don't want to fight it all the time either.

If anyone has installed them in place of the front red ramp insert (not pinned) and can post a picture of what they look like that would be great. Just wanted to post the pictures to be more clear about what I was trying to describe.

I agree with your concerns!
I use a set on a 696 (N/D) I carry. And although infrequent, my Wife's 66 gets carried wearing a set as well. What I did, was to strike the 90's of the Red Ramp insert replacement to break and de-horn the stark edge. If done with the care of a diamond cutting Rabbi performing his tasks, she'll remain easily seen and relatively snag free. Touch up with cold blue.
(BTW, don't tell anyone-Loctite sleeve and bearing retaining formula actually produces a higher shear strength bond for the front insert. But you didn't hear that from me)

Pic of meprolights on two guns

Don't know if you're still interested in the night sight pic. Here are 2 guns that I did red ramp replacements on. The front sight insert holds up great. I used the 625 for several years at work and a 627, with no problems at all. This is a good way to go for night sights on a revolver, in my opinion.
