Reserved parking for veterans at the grocery store

... Becoming a Chief is not easy. Some politics, but mostly dedicated service.... It's more likely you made Chief with 22-24 or more years of service when you sewed it on.

No, it's no an entitlement. You earned it. Don't let anyone tell you different.

Thanks for your kind words.

Yes, put it on at 22 and a few months. (I had declined promotion testing twice as an E-4 and once as an E-5 because I wasn't ready to be a supervisor. Can't do that anymore -- decline testing once and you're out!). My friends from those days voted me "least likely to make Chief"; I was the only one who did. I wore the stripes for more than six years and worked hard at not taking advantage of the "privilege" that came with them.

No politics here. I got on better with the young folks because I could relate to them. I was hard on my peers and senior officers for outwardly "taking" the "executive privilege" or demanding respect. I was not a Chief's Chief!

Believe me, nobody ever "told me different."

When I originally posted this I was wanting to point out that veterans are being honored now unlike in the past. If Grocery Outlet wants to save a space for veterans to park I for one appreciate that fact. A few years ago I had back surgery. I had a handicap placard for 6 months because I found it difficult to walk. I appreciated having a space to park close in at that time. 2 and 1/2 years ago I had total knee replacement on my right knee. I did not request a handicap placard at that time as walking was part of my PT. I generally park back in the lot as I do not like the circus that takes place at the front parking spots and quite frankly I need the exercise. I am fortunate to have drawn a rare elk tag in California and am looking forward to filling the freezer this Fall. If it wasn't for modern medicine I would only be dreaming about Elk hunting.

I do not advertise my veteran status, a lot of it today is trying to make for the way Vietnam veterans were treated, as well as some people belatedly realizing it's still a dangerous world out there and a strong military is still needed.
Since the majority of casualties today are from IEDs accommodating those injured by them is appropriate.
