Rest in peace, Nanci Griffith...

Sad day indeed. I've been listening to some of her music all day today. NPR has been doing a day long tribute today.

I guess I'm one of the few souls who was really not much aware of her. Hearing her sing and recognizing sweetness and sincerity when I heard it here, I was struck by her talent, her personality and accomplishments. Add me now to the list of people who are sad at her passing. Alas, Nanci - I barely knew ye. That's my misfortune. Rest in peace. Your music will live on.

John, you've summarized beautifully what so many of us loved about Nanci...here's one of my favorite tunes of hers, where that sweetness and sincerity shine throughout... :)

Got her Grammy winning cd "Other Voices, Other Rooms" about 1994. Was captivated by "Tecumseh Valley," "The Speed of the Sound Of Loneliness" and the entire cd. Have loved it and played it often. David Letterman said if you could only own one album, it should be this one.

The follow-up to that album, Other Voices Too, is just as good. It's got 19 tracks, some traditional folk songs, some more modern, all beautiful...

There's heartbreaking news today out of Nashville...Nancy Griffith has passed away, at only 68 years old.

I've been a fan of her music from the moment I first heard her, in the late 70s...but I got to see her live only once, back on May 1, 1989, at a small venue in Baltimore...it was just magical.

Nanci Griffith was brilliant, bright, sweet, and beautiful, and you never heard anyone say a bad word about her. She gave us so many memorable songs, and such terrific performances over the years. May she rest in peace, and may her memory be a blessing to her fans and her loved ones...

Rest in peace to the Legend.
