Hello- So I know this has been asked several times and I have read some previous threads, but my pistol is ever so different, so I wanted to ask anyways.

I bought a 4506 that was in phenominal shape; however, the previous owner wanted to clean up the pistol by surfacing the slide flats on either side to get rid of the laser etched smith and wesson text. In doing so, this left a shiney, not quite mirror finish on the slide. It looks nice, but I prefer it to have a matte look to match my 4006. Is there anything I can do short of bead blasting to restore it to a somewhat matte look or is blasting the only way?

I cleaned up my 4006 slide with a green scotch brite pad, but it had not been surfaced and polished, so I don't know if it would look as good on the 4506.

Any insight would truly be appreciated. Thanks S&W forum.

If you have access to an air compressor, a cheap Harbor Freight blaster gun at 80lbs, with an 80 grit glass bead will work miracles. Don't need a blast cabinet, but you wont recover the media.

80 grit glass beads are too coarse to match the factory finish. The proper size is #270+ which is available from Brownells. Their stock number is 084-063-270AH which is for 50 lbs. I have been using this media for over 10 years and I can match the factory finish without damaging most of the markings on the guns. The shallow laser letters don't hold up to any kind of blasting.
