Back home, for now
Sorry about the delay, but here's my non-reg mag, shipped to Seattle in March, 1940. Rebuilt and blued by Gene Williams, Ropers by Keith Brown.

Well, I'll never use Gene Williams now that I know he doesn't do the entire gun!

If you look closely, he only gave you back the end of the barrel!

That is an absolute beauty! I would love to have one like that and shoot it and use it since it has been refinsihed. I wish someone would sell me one cheap and they can keep the unaltered, original collector guns.

That's why I got this one initially- to shoot. It looked like it was dragged behind a car, but the bore, chambers and lock-up were perfect. I sent it back for a factory re-finish in '99 and later traded it for a nice Parker (we all stray). In 2005 or '06 I found it sitting in a gunshop in Simi Valley, Ca. for $900.00. So I bought it back (kept my mouth shut),sent it to Gene and ordered the Ropers from Keith. Shoots .38 WC POA at 25 yds into one ragged hole...I'm happy. And thanks, Dick, for advising me to buy it back!

Bob,
A splendid job by both Gene and Keith.
Truly the best way to give an oldster new life, and have a GREAT shooter that will cause jaws to drop!
Enjoy that beauty.

Thanks, Don. I think Bob Bettis (hope I got it right) has a nickle non-reg only a couple serial #s away from mine, also refinished by Gene. His (as well as his photos) is simply stunning.

Bob, Congratulations! What a gorgeous RM - and real craftsmanship in the gun and the stocks. Regards, Jerry

No Bruce- no "before" photos. When I got the gun back from S&W in '99 I wasn't happy...emblem was buffed, "MADE IN USA" was almost gone and light surface pitting was still on the sideplate, under the stocks. Gene did a superb job on all of the above. He also straightened out the brass front sight (probably dropped years ago), cleaned and reassembled the rear sight and removed the endshake. He said the gun was in super shape for a restoration. I agree...

Bob,

Don't you just hate it when folks who are supposed to know what they're doing with wood and metal screw up like that?

You're right, mine is just 17 numbers away and was shipped the same month.

Great story! I love how the gun found its way back to you -- or maybe I should say you found your way back to the gun. Remarkable!

Magnificent work by Gene, too!
