The serial number (on the butt, on the rear face of the cylinder, and on the bottom of the barrel) would be helpful. It appears to be a S&W Military and Police (M&P) revolver made during the period of 1914-1919.

Abrazos a ud., tambien. Bienevidos a el/la Forum.

(Mi espanol es muy poco.)

Keep in mind that S&W didn't heat treat cylinders for added strength until about Autumn, 1919. Don't shoot hot Plus P ammunition in this gun.

Just wondering how he acquired the gun and the specific laws on gun ownership in Mexico. I am completely ignorant of them but if someone knows please enlighten me as I always thought they were very strict.

The laws in Mexico with respect to firearms are more than strict, restrictive, they contrienen the purchase in stores since there is only one in the whole country, but we can buy between individuals if any problem, and once it is own to go to register it , To be the legal poosedor, without more investigation, we limit the calibres of the arms and the number of them. So I insist, it is restrictive, rather than strict.
