Went to CAMP PERRY, Ohio for the 2021 CMP Pistol Matches. Took the wife and entered her in the 22 events. We had a great time. While all shooters are wonderful there is something special about the bullseye crowd. Good people and always nice to visit with my USMC friends.

The CMP just started having revolver matches and I entered with the Model 14-3 that is single-action only. I had it lettered recently and it is indeed a factory SA.

The match was 10 rounds in 10 minutes at 50 yards in gusty wind. This was followed by a 10 shot timed fire string and then a 10 shot rapid fire string at 25 yards. Standard bullseye course of fire.

While I did not do great it was a decent score for the conditions. Bottom line is that it was good to get this great old gun out doing what it was designed to do. Even used the factory target stocks!

Bravo! Did you really get into the zone toward the end of every string, or did your scorer just list the hits from the outside in?

We score from the middle and out or vice-versa. After slow-fire, where we call and scope each shot, we have little idea which shot was which in the timed and rapid fire stages.

Outstanding!!

I see the box of American Eagle on the bench. What weight and bullet profile? Any restrictions on hand loads or factory ammo only?

The NRA has a Distinguished Revolver competition that allows only 38 special in 158 gr RN or SWC.

The new CMP Revolver competition allows a wide choice of calibers and ammo but the good old 38 Special is hard to beat. A friend gave me the box of RN 158 ammo and it was right on.

I am contemplating what my most accurate revolvers might be. Next year may see some 44 Special rounds heading downrange....or I may be right back to this 14-3. We'll see.

Very respectable score with a classic bullseye / target revolver.
I competed in bullseye competition in the 70's & 80's, it was and is one of my favorite disciplines.
Been to Camp Perry many times, for rifle competitions. One of my favorite places. Glad you and the Mrs. had the opportunity to go and compete.

Good shooting, that must of been fun.
Was the M14 the revolver of choice with the majority of shooters? Do they allow PPC guns?

The revolvers have to be pretty much factory stock. The K-38 has long dominated. L-frames are popular too along with a few Model 19s.

K-38s remain fairly available and reasonably priced on the used market, and they get the job done. A Target Hammer is helpful for getting one's five shots off in ten seconds. I was taught to fire the 50 yard rounds from the same cylinder one at a time so I have the best cylinder hole marked. It is a little more consistent that way.

Jeez, thanks for your patience for my dumb question. I used to shoot in a police revolver bullseye league, and should have remembered you couldn't tell which hole was which shot in timed and rapid.

New CMP Revolver Match Rules

This is great news! The CMP has really stepped up to the plate in regards to promoting marksmanship-based competitive shooting.
A few years ago, they broadened the list of acceptable pistols for the Service Pistol Match.
Now, they've hit a home run with the Centerfire Revolver Match!
Below are the "allowed revolver" rules that were just added for this year.

"Revolvers used in CMP-sanctioned Centerfire Revolver Matches must comply with this rule:
a) Revolvers may be single or double action. They must be factory manufactured with no external or internal modification made to the revolver as manufactured and sold by the factory of origin, except as authorized in this rule. No parts may be removed from the revolver, either externally or internally, nor may any part be added or modified, with the exception of milling the cylinder to accommodate moon clips. Exposed holes that were drilled and tapped for scope mounting are not considered to be an external modification.
b) Cartridges–may be chambered for any cartridge, caliber .32 to .45.
c) Barrels–may not exceed 6.5 inches in length, when measured from the back edge of the barrel, immediately forward of the cylinder, to the end of the barrel.
d) Trigger–must have a trigger pull of at least 2.5 pounds when cocked for single action firing. Honing the sear or sear notch to provide an improved trigger pull is permitted. External trigger stop devices are not permitted. Internal trigger stop devices not originally installed by the factory as original equipment in stock revolvers of the same make and model are not permitted.
e) Sights–may be fixed or adjustable open sights; optical sights are not permitted.
f) Any system of recoil control based on a compensator, barrel venting, barrel porting or other similar recoil reduction system is prohibited.
g) Grips–must be standard type stocks for the revolver model used, either factory original or replacement. Grips must be functionally identical for right or left hand use, made of wood or synthetic material with no palm swell or thumb rest, except that a cut-away area on the left grip to accommodate speed loader clearance is permitted. One-piece grips may be used on pistols that require them but should comply as closely as possible to the spirit of these requirements. Weighted grips and metal grips are not permitted. Grip tape or textured non-slip adhesive tape may be applied to the grip."

Guess that leaves out the PPC guns.
