Back in the early 90's I got back into shooting handguns again and soon developed a meaningful relationship with a group of guys at the local indoor shooting range. These guys were all middle aged and fairly well off financially and bought any handgun they wanted, remember the "wonder nines" it was that era. Also we were all well above average shots, these guys knew guns and shooting, no joke. Well I got off into trapshooting and over time the group broke up but I keeped in touch with most of them and still do, including the owner of the range and combined gun store. Some six years later I got it into my head to ask each of these guys what they actually were carrying or had in their cars or bed stands. Jep, as you probably have guessed almost all had revolvers of one model or another, all S&W's of course. I think even these plastic high-cap gun lovers of today will soon come to the same conclusion, there is just something about the revolver....

I respectfully disagree with you. Those of us that now own and shoot wheelguns were exposed to them by a generation that valued craftsmanship and patience. Today's generation of rising shooters tend to be impatient and want both speed and immediate gratification.

Many of the new, younger shooters are being steered into shooting by salesmen that are selling what moves, and semis are the fad in the movies and video games. Mix into the blend that few quality revolvers tend to be made today, and the new shooter/gun owner is moving to the semi auto.

In addition, the games that we learned shooting handguns seem to be fading away. My first handgun sport, which led to my K22 and K38, was 2700 3 gun bullseye. That led to IHMSA matches, shooting rams out to 200m, using my long barreled Model 27. I then evolved into PPC (and another K38), bowling pins and steel plates (my centerfire wheelguns then a Model 439). Today's games lean towards higher capacity than a wheelgun offers. IPSC, IDPA, action pistol, dueling tree, three gun ... these games are not exactly revolver friendly, and the advantage tends to go to the person using the high capacity/crew served semi-auto.

Until they make a revolver that fits my hand, has a lighter trigger pull, weights as much as my semi auto AND carries similar amount of ammo and can be reloaded just as fast .....until that day I'll carry a semi auto.

Oh and I'm middle aged

I forgot to mention my Model 36 in my original post...

In order to make my post germain to this section I forgot to mention what I still carry today. While my bedside is a 40 cal Glock, my car has my old 36 with me and my model 12 is a couch gun. Both were former police owned, the 36 was a LAPD officers off duty gun converted to double action only as per department reg's of that era. The 12 was a Chicago detectives turn in, both had been carried much and shot little. Happy "T" day to everybody.....

Mix into the blend that few quality revolvers tend to be made today, . . .

TRR8, M&P R8, PC 627's, 586 L-Comp, any Talo, one could go on with an impressive list of quality revolvers.

Anyway, MAYBE IT'S NOT EITHER OR BUT BOTH AND.

I generally carry an 8 shot revolver off duty and a mandated Glock 22 on duty. I'm happy with either, both are incredibly reliable, and more than adequate for what they are being called on to do.

I love automatics, especially my many S&W 3rd Gens, five Glocks, five Makarovs, two 1911s, two Sigs, CZ-52, CZ-82 and Berretta 8000F. Yep, I love working with the pistols and shooting them. I really get a kick out of finding a lovely S&W 3rd Gen, buying it, taking it home, totally disassembling it, cleaning it, checking each part, lubing it, reassembling it, and finally shooting it. Ah, tinkering with my autos. I mean does it get any better? ;)

Oh, which gun is on my nightstand ready to go with Federal Nyclad HP ammo, well, let's see . . .

As a matter of fact, it seems like I've always had some S&W J frame loaded, ready to go by my bed. Of course, there was that little riot in Los Angeles back in 1992 when I up-gunned a bit to a U.S. Rifle, Cal. .30 M1 with a bandoleer of six 8rd clips next to it, but that was only for a few days . . . and nights. ;)

For carry I prefer my S&W Airweight snubby over any semi-auto. No failure to feeds...5 ready to go w/ reasonable power.

Groo here
The gun and ammo work as a system.
I pick the System that will do what I want.

I kept searching for a good small carry semi auto and I bought quite a few. Then I bought an LCR 357 for CC and sold off most of the semi autos.
The revolver IMO is great for CC. No safety to be concerned with, major less concern of a negligible discharge or a jam.
I have no intention of going back to any semi auto for CC.

I like both, have carried both as duty weapons.i suggest carry and use what you shoot the best...typically for me its a revolver but....I love my new S&W m&p's as well
