I find it is still very difficult, too difficult, for me to watch the 9/11 memorials on TV today.

God, what an awful day that was.

Here is an article I have posted here in years past on this anniversary. It is about Rick Rescorla, a true American hero, who died that day giving his life for others. His actions are credited with saving thousands at the World Trade Center. He disregarded the Port Authority's directions to remain in place, and evacuated his people.

It's longish, but a wonderful read about an amazing, courageous, leader of men. A true warrior:

There were so many fateful coincidences that morning, so many decisions made in a moment that had consequences forever.

Some people overslept and were late for work...other people arrived early.

Some had appointments that took them to, or kept them from going to, the World Trade Center or the Pentagon that morning.

Some turned right, some turned left, when evacuating the buildings.

Among the passengers on Flight 93, there were some who were determined to fight back, to control how and when they met their Maker, rather than let some monster make that choice for them.

Rick Rescorla is indeed one of the true heroes of that terrible day, a man who deserves to live in our collective memories forever...
