Found a clean Ruger 7X57 for my grandaughter. Will have to cut to about 12 1/2" pull and want to put a recoil pad on it. Looks like several brands out there. Would appreciate your input on what is the best recoil tamer (at a reasonable price). Will be loading 140 grain Sierra Game Kings at 5% below max (will verify accuracy).

Guidance please folks.

I also have a ruger 77 in 7x57. It`s about my easiest recoiling rifle. I dont know what pad to get if any, but try the gun first, it hardly recoils! But then again I am 3 spins on the scale. One of the best cartridges out there, low recoil, flat shooting, accurate and different bullet weights seem to shoot to the same POA!

Kick EEZ

I highly recommend this pad. I did a world of research to decide. My 12 year old got a .270 Browning Medallion we had to cut slightly. The gunsmith took a Kick EEZ pad and fit it to the stock.

Took quite a bit of sanding, since the cut down stock is smaller. But this is a variable softness pad and it really tames the recoil. We used the sporting clay shotgun pad with the beveled "toe" on it so that it doesn't hang on clothes when shouldering it since the kid is smaller, but they're all good.

Hope it helps,

Pachmayr decelerator is fantastic! it cuts felt recoil down by close to half. Years ago when I was a young kid...(terrible thought..getting old) one was installed on my 270, it turned a day of pain into a day of fun. I went from a 10-20 round max day to 100 shots with ease. My brother now has the rifle and the pad has held up for several decades.

I highly recommend Limbsaver. Reduction in felt recoil is remarkable. I have them on a few my 12 ga. shotguns and large caliber rifles.

If it's a nice gun, you might think about an aftermarket youth sized stock and save the origional one for later.

Another vote for Kick EEZ pad. I have them on my skeet guns and measurably reduce recoil. I put one on a Heavy Barrel .308 that I was using in 600 yd. competition. The .308 didn't kick all that bad, but up to 80 rounds in prone began to bother me.

Great input folks - much appreciated - will have to think this thru. Thinking of picking up a used stock for cutting and saving the origonal. Have an early Ruger 6MM that I really enjoy.
