I'm trying to maximize storage capacity in my gun safe and saw an ad for Rifle Rods. It's basically a nylon rod that goes down the barrel with Velcro attached to the top to attach to the underside of the top shelf so that the guns can be stored straight up and down.

Anybody use them? Do they really open up that much space? Durability? Cheaper to make my own? Other suggestions?

I do not use, but have seen demo's. You can fit a lot more rifles in the safe, but they will move, and when you want a gun in the back you have to remove entirely everything in front of it.

Rifle Rods

I have seen these demonstrated at gun/outdoor shows and they seem to work for long guns. I did buy some of the pistol rods that clamp over the shelf and, voila, they work wonderfully! Freed up a bunch of unused space below two shelves and works for both pistols and revolvers. Think they were $10 for 4 or some such.
