Drinking my coffee this morning I am watching Rio Conchos with Richard Boone, Stuart Whitman and Tony Franciosa. A good old western, Richard Boone sure makes a good tough guy.
This movie is interseting because for once they aren't using 1892 Winchesters which wouldn't have been invented yet. They use 1873 rifles with half magazines and round barrels. Very unusual. Just like Paul Nueman in Hombre. But the thing is Rio Conchos was set in the 1860's! Close enough. This woman is in Rio Conchos breifly, partying with Tony Franciosa. Here she is in The Professionals. My favorite screensaver. What kind of rifle does Whitman have without full length magazine?
I've seen the same rented Sharps in Valdez Is Coming, The Tracker with Kris Kristfferson, young Guns, and another one I can't remember. It has to be a real Sharps if Burt Lancaster used it in 1971.I picked up on the rifle/Hombre connection right away. I've always liked that style. I haven't seen Rio Concho in years, but when I saw that lever gun I thought "I wonder if thats the same (actually) rifle Newman used in Hobre", since it's all Hollywood. Big hole in the end looks like .45-70. I had a Marlin .45-70 with a short magazine. Quite impressive. Thanks for reply.
