So sorry to post this, my heart aches for Joe, a good friend to all who knew him.

From Joe's younger sister Roberta:

Difficult to continue. But I want to thank all for the very kind words about my big brother, Joey. He was my Joey, my big brother older than me by 9 years. I looked up to him. Growing up he happily babysat me, bought me gifts at birthday and Christmas and gave QUALITY TIME to play those games with me. Years moved along I remember being 11 and he went to Nam. That skinny kid from Chelsea was one tough badass. He walked me down the aisle, became a wonderful uncle to my children. 20 years ago I moved to Florida and he always picked me up at Logan. Me and all my suitcases.....Joey had open heart surgery in January 2019. He actually did very well, but also got the diagnosis of COPD. He was a life long smoker. It was the COPD that took down this great guy. It was just unexpected. Thank you everyone for the kind words. I am not a member and cannot post a thank you on the site, so Michael if you would do this for me, I would appreciate it very much. Thanks for reaching out.

Oh no.

This is terrible news. A bright light gone out here on the Forum.

Rest peacefully, my friend. We will miss you. Thank you for answering your country's call as a young man, and for the friendship, laughter, and love you shared with us here.

Joseph, now with the angels in Heavenly peace. Be seeing you again on one fine day.

Joe, knowing that I was a big Motown fan, sent me a CD a couple years ago. There was no return address, and for those past few years I tried to get his last name and address, in vain.

Knowing Joe, he would never ask for anything in return, he was a giver.
I’m going to miss him, alot.

I have been gut punched. This will hurt for a long time.

He was a true friend that I admired and laughed with and he had the coolest username ever.

The gun and hockey worlds are forever diminished.

Goodbye, Joe. I'm going to YouTube to surround my self with Motown and Doo-Wop because that was your favorite music.

Sad news indeed.

Labworm was active on the forum for over 13 years and made a lot of friends here. We were fortunate to have him a part of this community. If everyone behaved like Joe, we wouldn't need moderators!

We exchanged casual PM's about the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He gave me some good natured ribbing over the past few years for my lack of participation in the annual threads. I deserved it! I'm a fair weather fan and find it hard to stay interested when the Red Wings are on the bottom of the heap.

Talk about a life well lived.. He served our country, had a good career, a sense of humor, was married to his soulmate for 51 years and was active in the Animal Rescue League. He certainly left his mark.

Godspeed.
