Rosewood burl hideout grips more franzite..What people want in custom revolver grips

I bought these from Grand Blue because they mimic the rubber Hogue Bantam grip. I like the three finger grip on the rubber version but the only wood version of the Bantam they offer is a two finger boot.

The fit is not very good and the screw doesn't seem to line up just right. They were cheap and looked good enough so I didn't complain much. But if they could be done right I would love a set.

some other guys grips

Just thought I would share a photo of what inspired my choice of speed load cutout. You should be able to recognize the grip maker...

How about desert ironwood? I would be looking for two sets, one for a S&W J frame and one for a GP-100.

The J frame, I would like something that matched the newer (642-2) stock grips, but good clearance for speedloaders. Smooth finish on those.

The GP, I would like something that matched the smaller, older Ruger stock grips, with the thumb (football) cutout. I would like checkering on those, in the center where the "insert" would normally be, but it's not a dealbreaker if you can't do that.

If you could do this in ironwood, I'd be one very happy guy, and would be more than willing to pay a fair price... I really like the look of that desert ironwood :).

I am having a problem finding suitable lumber on eBay of desert ironwood. It needs to be 2.5" wide by 7" long and 5/8" thick minimum for J frame. Also I only do S&W revolvers. But I could do an insert for the gp100 in ironwood. If you can find something that meets those minimum dimensions anywhere... the send me a pm

I have some ironwood that I got for knife handle scales. They measure:
5 1/8th inches long X 1 5/8th inches wide X 3/8 inch thick. Could you use these for inserts? I would think you could get several sets out of them if you can use them. If you would like them, I would send mail them to you.

Got the grips for my model 64 today that you made and I am tickled. What a nice job you have done. I don't have the smarts or the equipment to post a picture, but they really look nice{and feel great} on my 3 inch K frame. Recommend this mans work to everyone.

I also received a set of grips from Steven today. I couldn't be more pleased. They fit both the revolver and my small hand very well.

Like jinx, I'd recommend him to anyone.

A couple of pictures I snapped with my phone after work today. Sorry about the lock.

The grain of these dark grips looks phenomenal.
Any E.T.A. on some N-frame SB's?
I've got a jar on my dresser collecting dollar bills in anticipation. :D

FRANZITE CLONE

Franzite clone. I bought the originals off ebay in search of a thin styled grips that suited me. First off i noticed poor fillout in the molded plastic, sharp edges, and lack of quality control we have become accustomed to in this "Day and Age". But what I saw was a diamond in the rough. The original design was excellent, with my eyes closed I held the model 24 outstretched to simulate firing the action. First I noticed the grips afforded a high hand hold that i was not used to but the lack of palmswell compliments this style very well. I am guessing that these were designed with bullseye shooting in mind. Being a grip maker, stocksmith, or whatever you call it, I felt I had to do this design justice. Here are the pictures-

RE: Your "Franzite Clone," I will need a properly nice set of stocks for my "Project 616" custom conversion (Model 66 no dash to 327 Federal Magnum with 4" full underlug barrel.) That style, executed in rosewood or something else with a reddish hue is what comes to my mind's eye as just about perfect. Is that a possibility, and if yes, how much and how soon?

Regards,
Froggie

Your in luck, I just got A nice piece of rosewood in yesterday. I have a k frame in that style also. I could get it done in about 3-4 weeks maybe sooner. I have sent you a pm about price, I try to keep the actual business part separate from this thread ...sorry I haven't done enough checkering to offer it as a service at this time. Let me know if your still interested TTYL

nice nice nice

You are doing some fine work, I did not see many "blued " guns but I was thinking Birds eye Maple would be a great contrast.

I just put these on , I wish I found you sooner. $32 by the way.

I have a set of the Com-Pro style roughed out in claro walnut for N- frame. I also did my first maple grip today in Jframe Com-Pro, at least I think it was red maple... I got a box of cutoffs from a guy that sales high dollar gun stock blanks. He sent extra for free. So I am unsure..... I thought it was light claro walnut til I started sanding it and the smell and dust texture was not the same, sort of gummy. It is definatly not walnut. LOL I wonder how I am going to list that one for sale. Anyway I need some maple lumber like ambrosia spalted Birdseye lace burl something or other. I will scanning eBay for some deals.

I like the latest j-frame grips but kinda prefer the open-back strap skullcracker grips you posted pics of a month ago. I don't see prices for any of these........??

I just bought a set of used S&W J Combats RB for $100 (actually a god price for them) and a set of smooth Andean Alder J frame open back RB from Esmeralda, $100. These were both premium stocks but people will pay for quality. I know I will. I figure $65 -$150 for good stocks in J & K frame. Higher in N frame.
Like Zebulan I would like some RB , open back closed front stocks from exotic woods for some of my K frame snubbies.

I keep the business part on the "accessories for sale" part of the forum. Usually I charge $65 shipped for j frame $85-110 for k and n Frame. I kinda price them on how well they look when I am finished. Figure is usually what makes the difference. I usually make less than 10 sets a month. I don't take orders but I will take requests, if what you want sounds good to me I will give it a shot. If you don't like the pictures of the finished grip then there is no obligation to buy. Some of the custom grip makers have a 1-2 yr backlog. I don't want that.

I would like a real English walnut (not a laminate) grip made to duplicate the current S&W rubber Combat finger grooved grip, right down to the flat bottom, as opposed to the pointed bottom of combat grips. The other difference is the grip will not cover the backstrap, will not be finished in a lacquer or other shiny finish, but instead, be just oiled to bring out the natural grain. A antiqued S&W silver metal medallion would also be installed. Oh, and the grip is to be checkered, with a diamond around the grip hole.

This grip will be for the J frame revolver, round butt.

This post is for Schofield...here are some pics:

The grips I want should have the flat bottom as shown here on the rubber grip. This S&W rubber grip covers the backstrap, but I don't want that.

This is an idea for a wood combat grip, only it has the pointed bottom.

Lastly, if you could duplicate this grip (which is a copy of the S&W Heritage Classic) in the exact black silverwood, I would like to order a set of these as well. Please PM me with your thoughts.

Thanks again.

I love the cut out section to allow the logo stamp to be seen. It's always bothered me how the rubber Hogues go out of their way to cover the whole side plate and have their logo instead.
