Ruger GP-100

I have a 6 inch full underlug GP-100. I did smooth up the action, but other than that, no modifications. Mine shoots great with hard cast lead and jacketed bullets, accurate, produced excellent velocities, I have no complaints and I will not part with it.

I have a 20 plus year old 6 inch with a few thousand rounds thru it. Can't imagine a more solid gun.

I've never owned a GP-100 and there is only one comment here so far on accuracy. How do they compare overall with regard to accuracy in comparison with a Smith & Wesson? Anyone done any 25 or 50 yard group shooting from a benchrest?

I should have included more info in OP. GP-100 is SS, full underlug. Have handled and even fired. Trigger, even DA, is very good. Owner isn't original. Doesn't know if springs replaced. DA pull almost, but not quite, as good as my 66. Not as good as my 15 or my 25. FYI, my two best DA trigger pulls are my Taurus Tracker and my old Speed Six.

My opinion, if you fired it, like it and the price is "good", what are you waiting for? If I was in the same situation, it would be mine already!!!

A GP-100 is NOT stronger than an L frame, its heavier. People seem to get those mixed up. The difference between how S&W and Ruger manufacture their guns results in Ruger having to make a heavier gun to be as strong as the S&W. That said they are fine guns in their own right, but more weight doesn't always equal a stronger product.

I had a GP100 4in blue 357 in the late 80s. Loved it but sold it to fund a move to another state. Picked up another one in 2014, a stainless 3in 357 for home defense. They are a great quality revolver and on par with a Smith, just a different animal. No side plate, and the cylinder lock inside the frame is neat. This one is a keeper, they are a well made and designed gun. I also own a Smith 629, so a fan of both makes.

I have a Security Six and love it and to me, that is the size gun a .357 should be not some gigantic thing the size of a .44 Mag. People talk about how extremely rugged Ruger GP-100's are and I wonder why this is important to them? Every gun I own has been plenty rugged enough for me, do these guys drop their guns on concrete a lot?
