Ruger LCP .380

Ruger's are good guns: well designed and well engineered.

They tend to work better than comparable Sa&W 's.

However , they are minor calibers and don't do the job very well.

Don't dwell on the numbers and great photos from balistic gel. Look at the results from real world use.

These aren't my preferred sd weapons.

Just my opinion, of course.

The Lcp was just too small for me. I tried the lc380. Same thing, just slightly bigger. I could get all my fingers on it for more control, better aiming and such. It works fine, works as advertised, worth the money, no issues ever. Fit well in the back pocket. Fit well anywhere I put it. Not too small, far from too big, it was on the small side of just right. I appreciate it as a quality weapon that works fine and in a defense situation I'll take that little ruger over a lead pipe every time.

I hated that trigger pull though. I didn't find it fun to shoot. I shot pretty good with it, found my personal best carry spot (even though all carry methods worked fine), and thought long and hard about giving it to my sister for Christmas. I just didn't like the gun. It wasn't me, it wasn't my style. You know that moment when you hold the perfect gun and it's kinda like holding a puppy that becomes your new best friend for the next 15 years? My gun moment was a Sig full size 1911. Definitely far from anything ruger makes.

I found a man trading off his 40s&w looking for something smaller, so I traded my $400 gun for his $500 gun. Never looked back.

I've been putting off getting one (you know for Lady Koz):D because I haven't seen .380 ammo in months. Where are you folks finding it?????

My local gun store always has one 50rd target, and sometimes a 20rd jhp. The ammo is scarce, but within a week I can gather what I need if I run dry.

The same can be said for my 45acp ammo. Once a month I even find a box of 22 there. The last few boxes of 22 I found was their last box.

It's difficult to find ammo on the south side of Atlanta Georgia, but definitely possible.

I carried the LCP as my primary for more than a year. Convenient and concealable but I do not have confidence in the round. I prefer a .38 or bigger and usually have a revolver on me at all times. It could be "comforting" as a BUG, not sure where or if it will fit in my everyday carry over the long run.

It's good to have options. There are times when the LCP is what's called for.

I picked up a LCP about two years ago. It's great to have in the pocket when anything else would be to big.

All I ever carry in it is 95grn ball. I've read a few things about HP rounds not getting enough penetration. As far as recoil, no worse than a J-frame.

I have carried the LCP for a couple of years on a daily basis. There are 2 things I did that made a lot of difference.

Get the grip sleeve from Midway as it makes a world of difference in the way it fits your hand and absorbs recoil. Then get a nice pocket holster.

If my wallet is in my back pocket the LCP is in my front.

Love mine (a 372-prefix) and think it might be the best handgun value presently on the market. I carry it with Buffalo Bore 95-gr flat-point ball that does just south of 1100 fps from the thing. Super-light, carries easily in a pocket or IWB with just the mounted-to-the-gun clip. Utterly reliable thus far (about 600 rounds) with everything, and more accurate for me in my hands than a 1 7/8" J-frame.

I was skeptical when Ruger brought out these obvious rip-offs of the Kel-Tec design, but I found that Ruger's small improvements to the gripframe allowed me to shoot the LCP reliably one-handed (something my hands never were able to achieve with the P3AT). The sight improvements on the newer LCPs look noteworthy, though I've never had any problem using the original sight bumps with a variant of Mas Ayoob's Stressfire technique.

Other than when I was shooting some Korean made ammo it has been very reliable (with the Korean ammo I had several FTF and FTE issues). It has no sights, and when others state that they can make a tight grouping at 7 or even 10 yards, my compliments to them! I found that I could generally keep it to "dinner plate" accuracy up to about 5 yards so I added a Crimson Trace laser. But I can't imagine using it for self defense at more than about 7 yards in any case.

This is my smallest gun and by far the easiest to pocket carry. I prefer to carry a J-frame, even with only 5 rounds, in a waistband holster but for pocket carry the LCP seems the perfect gun.

My WalMart has it pretty regular. They also have .45 that's been there 2 months now. 5 or 6 different types.

Relax. It will snap but there is no kick. It is a .380 not a .50BMG. The .380 is a fun round and a decent self defense round though not a first choice. Relax, practice, and have fun. And it will serve you well in self defense.

I was responding to previous posts about the kick. No worries :D

Erich, who makes the nice thin knife in your first picture? Looks like it would be good one for pocket carry.

Thanks, Don

I made the mistake of going to the ER w/left arm pain and my LCP was strapped to my ankle.

While attaching the leads, the nurse saw it, told me he was gonna remove it, unload it and call Security. I told them I could care less what they did with it, but do me a solid and shoot me with it (cuz they wouldn't give me any morphine at the time).

Before Security got there, after I was being monitored, the nurses passed around my weapon between themselves and were fascinated with the laser site which I found kinda funny.

I also put a pocket clip on mine for clipping to the inner breast pocket of a sport coat.

I have an LCP and personaly think it's one of the best .380s out there.
Great Pistol that will serve you well.

Hi Don,

That's a SOG Micron tanto keychain knife, and it's really more of a novelty than anything else. (I picked it up on a lark for $6 or something like that on some big sale.) Forget pocket carry, it would actually be good for wallet carry. :) It's too small for effective use for anything other than opening envelopes, though.

Love my LCP, has never failed with many different brands and bullet weights of ammo. I also use Hornady Critical Defense ammo for EDC. It goes in my pocket, in a holster, when carrying my Shield is impractical.

I see sights on yours, mine too has sights. A gent above mentioned no sights on his.

A factory error?

No, it has sights. I think what was meant by a previous post is the sights are so bad it's like not having them. I think the newer version of the LCP has better sights than the previous one does.

I believe amico Vito simply isn't considering the sight bumps on his LCP to be sights. :) Since they're milled into the slide, it would have to be a pretty incredible series of errors for them to actually have been omitted.
