I am looking to purchase the new Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 Creedmore. I have read some really great things in several magazine reviews of this rifle, but was wondering if anyone has actual experience with the RPR? Right now, I know they are hard to come by, and actually saw one to put my hands on at a LGS, and my initial impression was very positive, regarding the quality. I really wanted to throw down my money for it, but decided to wait since I can save about $500 by going through my local FFL, who is a friend. Any comments and opinions are welcome.
I have always been a "pistol guy," but currently have, in long guns, a pre-64 Winchester model 70 in .308; a Sons of Liberty AR in .556, and a Springfield Armory M1A SOCOM CQB in .308.

Don't have one myself but know of a couple locally owned. Have heard nothing but good about them, and I have to admit, for a Rxxxx product, I am curious myself. Hope you get some good input, and if you buy one, be sure to come back and tell us about it. :)

I have one in .308 and really like it. It is extremely accurate for a gun in the price range it is placed in. I believe from my fellow distance shooters that the 6.5 Creedmore is more accurate beyond 6 hundred yards out to a thousand yards. The ballistics are better for the longest shots. You will spend more on the glass than the rifle but I am at less than $2500 all in with a Vortex PST 6-24 scope. I am able to hit a 12" steel plate at 600 yards without too much trouble. Lots of fun but "Match" ammunition is expensive. I can keep up with shooters that have rifles that cost three times as much as my setup.

I have never bought one, but had a friend come out recently with his and it was a nice gun, we never stretched them out past 500 yds.

that day, we were shooting gallon milk jugs at random ranges and I was having no trouble with the shots using my old savage 10fp tactical. with its BSA contender Glass

he missed a couple at the longer ranges but it was not the guns fault, and he was on the jugs with the second shot, he just needs more time on the gun, his was new and I have been shooting mine for over 20 years

Ruger precision

I have shot the Ruger precision rifles in 308, 6.5 and 243. All three with the right optics, ammo and shooter are capable of sub moa, I have shot the 308 and 6.5 out to 1000 yds several times and can bang a 10" gong regularly. If I was going to buy one, it would be the 6.5.

I have one in .243 and one in 6.5 Creedmoor. Both are sub 1/2 MOA accurate.

Love them both, the 6mm has an edge at longer distances over the 6.5 but the plates don't ring quite as loud.

Both are a dream to shoot. Hate to say it but 500 yards is pretty boring with these rifles.

I have the 308 - love it!
The downside to the Creedmore is that unless you reload - you'll have to buy commercial ammo.

Kinda the same deal for the 308 and 243....... If you don't reload, ammo doesn't magically appear outta the sky for only those with 308's and 243's.....

I have an RPR in .308Win...

I think the RPR is the least expensive way to a quality long range gun. It comes with everything you need and nothing you don't. The stock is fully adjustable. You'll had hundreds to any other gun to get that. It comes with picatinny rails to fit on the forearm and also has a sling button if you choose to use it. This allows easy attachment of any bipod on the market.

I bought mine without the muzzle brake and added one from Witt Machine. It's less expensive than the Ruger brake and works really well.

I'm happy with the accuracy so far:

How far down does the magazine hang? Does it become a problem when shooting from prone? Thanks,Vonn

If memory serves, a ten round mag only sticks out about an inch and the rifle sits on the pistol grip, not the magazine floor plate. Twenty round mags stick out about 3 inches from the bottom of the mag well and hold the pistol grip up about 1/8" with the bipod at the lowest setting.

I use a Harris 9-13" bipod, very seldom have it at max height and I don't use anything other than 20 round mags. Zero issues shooting prone unless there are some wierd obstacles on the ground and then it's a simple issue of adjusting shooting position to engage the target.

A 10 round PMAG (included with rifle) only protrudes 1.5" from the mag well. I've only shot the rifle while prone and the mag has never been an issue. I have no trouble changing it while still rested on the bag. I used the bipod for the pic, but normally use a sand bag or back pack for a rest.

I only have 10 round mags. Considering the rate of fire being 1 round every 30 seconds or so, 10 is enough for me. I usually only load one round at a time anyway.

My son shoots a ruger perfusion rifle in 6.5 creedmore. He looks es in west Texas where long range shooting is the norm.He shoots at 1000 yards and his groups are respectable. He reloads and loads all his ammo for it.Last time I was at his gun club I could not see his target but he was still banging steel at 1000 yds.It is a nice rifle he bought it from his step brother.Shot it so much he claimed he wore out barrel and put new one on it.
