On my 1911's and cz pistols the recoil springs weight wise the sweet spot seems to be going up two sizes stronger seems to be the key to less cycle timing, less over travel, less recoil, better handling, the next round is loaded much faster. I went up two sizes stronger over the standard spring.
I do have a problem with the 1911's that have no full length guide rod. Since the spring can be heard coiling and binding as the slide is pulled back slowly my question is how much of the spring pressure rating does the slide actually see. By installing a full length guide rod the recoil spring can apply it's full rating to the slide. Could I be going up on the recoil spring two sizes stronger be actually too strong. I'm going from the standard 16# spring to the 18# spring. The difference is very noticable but would a 17# or 17.5# spring be better.
My point is maybe we need a few different recoil springs to test at the range to actually tune the pistol to the ammo were using and our liking.
Remember by installing the stronger recoil spring with the stronger rated springs the slides are harder to pull back.
Don't forget to lube the spring on the steel guide. I would use a gun grease or moly lightly.
