Rust removal

I assume this is the correct forum. This has probably been asked before but, is Liquid Wrench safe to use to remove rust from a blued gun. I read about it recently also saying to use with bronze wool. Any expert advice would be appreciated.

Any good light oil with fine bronze wool should remove rust. Kroil works really well with even 4/0 steel wool

Thanx for the reply daa9mm. I've read about Kroil and it sounds good however I don't have any. Seems to me Liquid Wrench, which I do have, would do the job on rust but will it harm the bluing. I've read that it won't hurt the blue but I don't know how expert the author is.

0000 steel wool and gun or cutting oil are what I use. Rub gently, let the steel wool do the work. The area that had the rust will probably not have bluing due to it being eaten away. Remember to wipe off the little pieces of the steel wool that break off. I have to do this after bluing a gun more than finding rust on mine.

This "Blue Wonder" stuff was recommended to me, but I haven't tried any yet.

Liquid Wrench will work just fine, but no better than transmission fluid and at significantly higher cost.

Thank y'all for the info. FWIW In my quest for the ultimate rust fighting process, I googled LSA, per gjamison's reply and found the following link. Looks like this fella did some serious testing. Y'all may have seen it before but I'm impressed.

RIG UNIVERSAL

IMHO the single BEST rust preventative is the tried & true RIG Universal which is now being sold again. I have used this stuff for 35 years (and not just on guns) and have never been disappointed. Give it a shot, you will find lots of uses for it.
