Recently bought a 2" model 60, no dash, with a prefix of BAA, which should put it around 1988 or 1989. The gun is a bit confusing to me, since IMO, a no dash version should only be made up until 1972 or so according to number SCoSW 4, and a dash 3 version fits according to the prefix, and the book description.
The gun came in DAO, with a bobbed hammer. I posted the question about the gun, a month or so ago, in the forum and didn't get much interest in it. Someone mentioned that since the hammer looked different, it was not factory.
I'm trying to figure out what I have, and am not sure if the internals are factory DAO, or after it left the mothership. Another interesting thing, is that on page 261, of #4, it lists product code 102314, as a 2" DAO, RB and bobbed hammer, and my serial number would put it very near that time frame.
So I'm trying to figure out what model 60 I have, as well as whether or not it's a factory DAO model? Thanks in advance.

No...
Like the model 10's, 36's and 625's (there were others), S&W produced various revision levels concurrently and used the revision level to differentiate variations.

The Model 60 (no dash) was in production until 1988.
The 60-1 was a 3" square butt.
The 60-2 were 2" DAO's made for the NYPD.
The 60-3 were an updated version of the Model 60 (no dash) with the updated front sideplate plunger screw (and corresponding yoke stud) that didn't require fitting.

I going to heavily guess your Bobbed Hammer is not factory. I have a 60-2 NY-1 (1987) with the bobbed hammer, and I've looked a number more where the hammers were identical. From my pic it seems the two hammers, yours and mine have a different profile with the little V-notch on the back of my hammer. Hope this helps. Take care.
