Which are the best? Are parts and magazines still available?

Thanks

I must agree with S&W247. I like the 4006 very much, but I don't think you would go wrong with any model you choose.

If you have one (or more) you know what everyone else is missing. If you don't have one you don't know what you are missing. They are built like a tank, nearly indestructable.

Class III

The big S&W autos are big , bulky and heavy. That said they are works of art. I carried Colt 1911 for 30 years but my current bedroom gun is a 4506. 10mm is probably best in a 4006.

Rogo123, yes the S&W 10xx series pistols are very rugged pistols. Not all parts are not as availible as they once were. Aftermarket stuff is almost non-existant except for sights and grips. Magazines are getting pricey also.

As far as what is the best...that depends on what you want to do with the pistol, Woods carry or hunting the 1006, 1026 or 1046 (rare) are the 5.00" barreled models, if you want some shorter concealment you will want the 1066, 1076 or the 1086 with the 4.25" barrels.

You will be well served by any of these beautiful pistols in 10mm.

Now ammunition...quality ammo does exist and some factory stuff is toned down to near 40S&W. So some judgement will be needed to atain the flavor you want.

Best regards!

I have only put about 100 round through my 1076 but I enjoyed everyone. It is a fine gun to shoot.

Reloading will fix any ammo problem with any caliber. There is plenty of new brass available from Winchester, Remington, and Starline.

Work a good load up for the type of shooting you do and you will also get
better ammo then factory. Some of us older guys still use Bullseye for powder.
