I just bought a 1911 PC and want to do a detail strip. I am very familiar with this procedure on other 1911s.
The mainspring housing is out. I can't get the ambisafety to budge in the usual way, which makes me think it will be difficult to reassemble.
I can't find a video.
Help,please.
Also, can the solid guide rod and plug be replaced by a standard setup?

If it has the traditional barrel bushing, then yes, you can replace the full length recoil spring guide rod with a short guide rod and plug.

Ambidextrous safeties on the 1911 can be a real (word not allowed). Personally, I don't care for them, but then I am right handed. The two sides are usually connected to each other by a tongue and groove joint. If this joint is tightly fitted, and it should be in order to reduce slop in the functioning of the two sides, it can almost be a press fit. Given that most handguns today are assembled, not built by craftsmen, it would not surprise me if there was a tool that press fit the two sides into the receiver.

You notice the "extension" under the thumb lever on the right side, (that goes under the right grip panel), that is what holds the right side thumb safety on. It must be removed, remove grip panel, pull straight out. Then remove the left side in normal manner. I had an E Series Pro Model and removed it several times to do a trigger job.

Unless the PC model has been entirely re-designed it should come out the same way.

It still won't budge.
