S&W 25rd Mags....backorder update from Cabelas

A company that is moving their operation based on principals would most definatly invite all worthwhile employees along for the ride. That was my personal experiance.

I don't recall, after repurposing a plant, having to get OSHA approval before production began. Just the usuall walkthru at some point afterwords.

We had to use a private company that had their own "OSHA approved" inspector that was retired from OSHA every time the company put in a new machine. This was so the OSHA walkthru was just that and not an inspection.BTW- this was in Ohio.

If magpul moves, I wouldn't be surprised if it takes at least 6 to 8 weeks at the earliest to be up and running. They will have to find existing building or have one built, hire new workers, train people, set up machinery etc. Usually from when a company breaks ground to actually producing a product is a year. Remember permits, OSHA regs and inspection, all kind of things have to be performed before the first product leaves the building.

I would be hard pressed to disagree with that assessment. Also, it's not just MagPul. They have three (I think that's right) subcontractors that do the actual manufacturing of their products, including magazines. If I remember the article correctly, that's something close to 600 employees.

Crying shame they don't get out in front of this and tell folks what is going on, I can hear the bad PR building. In my experience, bad news does not get better with time. This is the first S&W I've bought since the gun control debacle from years ago so I can relate to how long people hold grudges.

No disagreement from me on this subject.

It's a shame they at least don't have 25 rounders to ship to new 15-22 customers. Now new buyers have to wait or pay Gunbroker prices.

From Magpul's & press info the bill that was filed and moving forward would allow them to continue to mfg the mags they just could not be sold in CO, there was an amendment to allow mfg in an attempt to keep them in CO.

Assuming the bill becomes law Magpul has indicated they would move even if allowed to mfg, but there would be no statutory time pressure if the amendment is part of the law thus they could move in phases without a major disruption.

Magpul has said they could move without a major disruption and if I recall correctly even the bill w/o the amendment did not go into effect for 5 more mos.

Somebody is pumping out PMAGS left and right and they are selling at near normal prices if you have the time to watch and find the legit dealers. So maybe things won't be as bad as some are predicting should they move. Personally I prefer that the bill go down in flames and I do appreciate them taking a stand against the liberal/political "feel good" movement.

On the other hand a nice email from S&W offering an expedited second mag to new purchasers that registered in the past few months would be nice... :D

I really don't care who manufactures the magazines. I do know, since November I purchased a M&P 22 w/12 round mag., M&P15-22 w/25 round mag., M&P40 Pro Series w/15 round mag., along with a 9mm Glock.
The thing I have noticed is, I can buy all the high capacity mags I want for the Glock, for a reasonable price and I can't find any mags for the Smith & Wesson guns for under $90.00 each.
THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE!!!

I was looking for a boresnake the other day. And came acrossed this web site that says they have S&W 25RD Mags for 28.99 Gun Magazines

Hope this helps

FWIW, Magpul does NOT make S&W M&P 15-22 magazines. I sent an email to Magpul and received this reponse:

Thank you for contacting us. Sorry we do not make any 22lr mags.

Subject: Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 Magazines

Hello,

I’m a recent owner of a S&W M&P 15-22 that came with the stock 10rd (Long) magazine as I live in the state of NJ. I was hopeful you could provide insight on whether I will ever be able to buy any additional magazines. I understand that Magpul manufactures the magazines for S&W.

There have been no new magazines available for this firearm since late last year. Have you discontinued manufacturing these magazines? Any insight as to whether manufacturing of these magazines will be continued would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Most likely its a priority issue. Most of these manufactures batch build, build items in batches until they build x amount, then switch out molds and build an x amount of another item. I would think 22 cal mags would not be as high on the priority list as Mags for the larger caliber black rifles would be. I would think Magpul's own items would have priority over S&W or any other brands they contract to manufacture for, and if they are producing S&W Mags, S&W would be using them for their production runs of 15-22 first, before selling the Mags as accessories/parts.

Production numbers/quotas would be set forth within the contract. Magpul can't not make mags for S&W simply because theirs are in more demand. That said, it's really odd that nobody is finding these mags anywhere.

According to the reply from Magpul they do not manufacture magazines for any firearm that utilizes 22lr rounds. So far I've not found any credible information regarding who or where S&W's M&P 15-22 OEM magazines are made but it's definitely not Magpul.

I hope that's not true. Think about all the handguns they make with more than 10 round mags. I doubt S&W would kneal to potential fed bans as they have in the past. They got quite a big backlash from the gun community when S&W compromised with the feds in the past years under different management. I don't think they would repeat past mistakes.
I wouldn't be so quick to make that assumption. I can't imagine the kind of coercion and threats these gun manufacturers experiencing behind closed doors. No one, I mean no one, either side of the issue, expected Justice Roberts to rule for the Affordabble Healthcare Law. We can not begin to fathom what goes on behind the scenes in "smoke filled rooms".

FWIW, most OEM suppliers don't disclose who they make products for, even when asked.

Magpul's reply to my email did not disclose if they were an OEM Manufacturer for S&W or anybody else for that matter. They simply stated they do not manufacture ANY .22lr magazines. Since they don't manufacture any .22lr magazines they cannot be an OEM Mag Manufacturer for the M&P 15-22. Pretty cut & dry from my perspective. No reason for their customer/technical service personnel to lie about what types of magazines they make.

Order the promags. Others are receiving them in 2-4 weeks.

Sorry....But I'd rather pass on that. I've heard enough issues with these aftermarket mags not feeding properly....maybe they have worked fine for you, but others have had problems.

I bought the M&P15-22 because I wanted the highest quality .22LR. If I was willing to settle for a rifle that works good 50% of the time, I would have just picked up the Umarex.

Plus, the ProMags look like about 4-5 inches longer than a standard 30rd 5.56 AR mag. Excessively bulky and unneccessary. The S&W 25rds are just about perfect.
