S&W 29-2 8 3/8

As a collector of 29-2 You should be around $1,200 mint condition no box or papers. Presentation case with tools and papers around $1600. The shorter the barrel add a bit more, nickel add more as well.

Prices are climbing fast.
Nobody is getting my 8 3/8" (possibly unfired but who knows) blued, presentation case, tools, papers, correct unlabeled blue box, and original cardboard shipping container with cardboard spacer and correct serial numbered S&W label for anywhere near that number...

I thought I had a pic of all that, but no, sorry...:o...Ben

Wow, that's nice. Hope you'll enjoy shooting it - or will it be a safe queen?

I am going to shoot it. Probably not a ton but why own a gun if you can't enjoy what it is for. I don't buy it for an investment.

The guy I bought it from called and said he found the presentation case and tools. Should there be a cardboard box as well? Is the box serial Ed number to the gun. He had a bunch of S&W guns so curious if he is just being nice and giving me a case?

Congrats! Spotted one today in a local shop, same barrel length, outstanding condition, $1199+ tax/fees. Barely had a turn line. If it was a 6.5" I would've taken it home lol.

I never shot this Model 29-2 as it is one of the few two-tones made in this model. It was shipped in October 1972. Click on the photo for a better look.

Oh my loving God

I've owned an 8 3/8 for 40 years. Back in the day, it saw nothing but full house reloads, mostly Keith's 22gr/2400 load. I shot several black bear and many deer with it when I used to hunt. My point is, with all that pounding, the gun still locks tight and shoots like a laser. It dispels the myth that model 29's can't take a continuous pounding. Maybe I just got lucky. Now a days, it's nothing but 9gr of Unique. You will thoroughly enjoy this revolver. Congrats!

I bought one in St. Charles, MO. in April. Paid $1700. It certainly had very few rounds through it. It had short carry up on one chamber, but I fixed that as soon as I got home. I know I paid too much, but my last one I had to sell over 30 years ago, and had not found a suitable replacement since. Besides, I just put it on the credit card, that's not real money!!

I believe the label would be affixed to the cardboard box. Some one help us out here on how the display case and gun was shipped.

Nickel 8 3/8 29-2

Nickel, presentation box tools and paperwork. $1200. about a year ago. Are nickel ones more interesting than blued???

Was a used 28-2 with it, $800. more.

Some unpleasantness has resulted as someone else has since told the widow she should have gotten $2000. for the nickel one.

Bought my S&W 29-2 8-3/8" barrel, used, from a coworker with only the presentation box and Bianchi shoulder holster for $250. But that was 1983; so like others, I'd guess $1200 would be a good number.

Check the side plate screws every so often as mine did loosen after a while.

BTW - sold mine for $250 to a different coworker in 1994.

Here's a 25-3 complete package. Yes, label on the cardboard box, gun in unlabeled blue box, packed on top of the wood presentation case. I have a 29-2 packed the same way but didn't have a picture of it handy. Edit: Based on Doc44s comment/picture below I should clarify, my 29-2 as packed in the picture below, is from 1980.

That's exactly what mine looks like for my 29-2...Only my label had come off the end, but was still saved (the glued spot is still on the box)...Inside the cardboard box the empty presentation case (with inserts, tools and papers) is on the bottom...The unlabeled blue box with gun inside is on top next to a square cardboard spacer tube to fill out the space......Ben

Photo below shows how Model 29s and later, Model 25s, 27s, and 57s were shipped and labeled from approximately 1962-1978. Revolver, its accessories and literature were packaged inside the mahogany case.
