Newbe here. Just found this site after I remembered a S&W pistol I inherited from my grandparents.
Stamped on the barrel is 32 LONG CTG.
The barrel is approximately 3.25 inches long. The serial number is 184754.
It is not in the best shape as you can see in the attached photographs.

Since it came from my grandparents, I want to hang onto it. What information is available on it?

Replying to my own post to see if I can make the photographs show up in the thread rather than a link.

Mike, I saw that post, but was hoping for a date when mine may have been manufactured.

Also, would it be worthwhile to have the pistol "re-blued"? I assume the light rust would be removed, and the pistol returned to nearly new condition.

Thanks, Bob

Reblueing your revolver will ruin all collectors value. I wouldn't do it. Its a family keepsake to be shot, valued and passed on to your heirs.

Agree with Mr. Raider. Please do not re-blue the gun.

Very nice!! Hang on to your family history. A fun gun to shoot!

I'm going to guess your gun is in the same range (date of manufacture) as the gun in the link Mr. Priwer refered to...maybe a bit earlier.

Bob

The gun is, maybe 1910 - plus/minus a year or two.

As others noted, there is no reason to reblue it. I would suggest getting a
can/bottle of Corrosion-X, and some 0000 steel wool. Use lots of the oil, let
it soak for a while, and then with lots of oil, wipe the steel wool back and
forth. That will remove the surface rust - but make sure the steel wool is always
lubricated. Then, wipe it down with a soft cloth, getting rid of the excess
oil. Periodically, wipe it down with a light coat of Corrosion-X, and the gun
will look very nice.

Later, Mike Priwer
