Actually mine says "+P jacketed only" in the box there was an explination. Lead at standard pressures is fine and I have shot a lot of lead through mine. The problem is lead bullets at +P pressures with the corresponding added recoil can cause the lead bullets to pull out of the crimp. This can cause the cylinder to lock up when the bullet nose sticks out past the end of the cylinder. Apparently the jacketed rounds hold the crimp better.
Great little gun! I got mine as a 10th wedding aniversity present from my wonderful wife in Feb. 2005. Great for carry but +P rounds have a recoil that will hurt your trigger finger when the front of the trigger guard smacks it. Jim.

Hi, just took a peek at my pre-lock 337. Bbl shroud is marked +P Jacketed. Afraid you're gonna hafta try different loads as some +Ps will develop this 'inertia pull' in the cylinder. If it helps you, the Win white box 125gr JHP that used to be available at Walmart works fine, no pull. Not as hot as other 125s, but function trumps power in this instance.

The 337 is a bear to shoot with boot-type grips. Maybe target WCs with their bullets crimped flush could be used. Never tried.
Good shooting!

P.S. Never thought I would write 'gonna hafta.'

Thank you guys ,exactly the explanation I needed . As both of you said she's a She Devil with +P ,never again .LOL
