s&w 3913

Just adding a PLUS to everything said above. They are getting harder to find, but there are still some out there. The LS is approaching cult status, and prices are getting beyond my ability to pay. Gun Broker had a "special edition" made for a LEO contract a few months ago. It did not have Lady Smith on the slide. The last bid I saw was $750!

I love my 3913 TSW, and I also have a 908 which is a great pistol. Who knows, I may even find an LS one of these days!

Ever notice the frame lines on the 3913 Lady Smith are a little different than the 3913? Of course S&W let that guy go after the LS. Probably the most talented pistol designer/engineer they ever had.

Here is a lady smith I traded a M&P9c for.

I prefer my H&K P7, over the 3913, but it's a pretty close call due to the weight advantage of the 3913. I've never shot a Kahr K9, but I suspect it's a worthy competitor in this class. I'm not a Sig-guy, but don't they also make a single stack about the same size as the 3913?
Regardless of the competition the 3913 is a great compact-- light to carry, reliably eats just about everything, and reasonably accurate.

Although I have a few S&W autoloaders, I'm a much bigger fan of their revolvers. That said, I like small, single stack 9mm's, looks like I need to keep my eye's open for a good deal on a 3913.

SIG makes the P239, which is a really nice pistol...it is heavier, and around $200 more, depending on the model. It is still in production, while the 3rd generation S&Ws are not, if that matters. The P239 has an 8 round capacity (in 9mm) just like the 3913.

Thanks for the info. I managed to find this interesting set of comparison photos showing the P239, P7M8 and 3913...

I can't speak to the P7M8, but I have had both the P239 (no longer have it) and the 3913 (still have it.) SIGs are quality pistols, and field stripping is very easy. The P239 is heavy, especially for CCW. Both pistols are very reliable. Of the two, I prefer the 3913 for CCW, with the weight being the tie breaker for me.

Based on my internet search I believe the P7M8 weighs slightly more (about 30 ounces with an empty mag) than the P239 (which seems to come in closer to 29.5 ounces), but that's pretty comparable. I love the P7 family, but they aren't feather weights. No doubt the light weight of the 3913 makes it very comfortable to carry.

The 3913 TSW weighs 24.5 oz empty, so that's only 5 oz difference between it and the P239, but in the hand there feels to be a larger difference between the two.

I can't speak to the P7M8, but you can't go wrong with either the P239 or the 3913...you should be able to easily find a P239 in your LGS, or order one...the 3913 is out of production, so it will be harder to find one.

found a 3913 at a pawn shop this weekend

Found a 3913 with two grips, a zippered pouch and thinking about putting it on lay-away. They said they would take $400 or $450 for it (can't recall exactly). Looked to be in very good shape. Barrel was nice. Did not appear to be much shot through it.
From what I can read, and there is not much to be found, this is a pretty well made pistol. I am looking for a single stack 9 for carry and this might fit the bill.

Click on the tag "3913" at the bottom of this thread. There is quite a bit of input here on the 3913.

The 3913 is the finest semi auto to ever come out of S&W. Also the finestt single stack, ccw 9mm to come out of anywhere. Oh, IMO of course. ;)

You got a good deal on a great pistol. Regards 18DAI.

I've been researching them for about 3 months now and I haven't see one offered for less than $400....so if you're wanting one and $450 is the out the door price, I would jump on it.

3913 and cousins price check confirmation

I've also been doing a lot of "shopping" on 3 of the major on-line gun sales sites the last 2 months and agree that $400-$450 for a very clean, little used 3913 is a very good price.

Jump on it!

I ended up adding another 3rd gen to my bunch instead this time, a 4014, which is the .40 S&W single stack compact- alloy frame with blued finish, but otherwise similar to the 3913. I was looking for a 3913 and happened to see this one, and it was LNIB at an incredible price, and I really like the 40 S&W as well as the 9 mm, so it was an easy decision.

Other similar single stacks in this family are the 3914 (blued DA/SA), 3953 (Alloy-stainless DAO) and 4013 (.40 S&W - allow/stainless) and 4053 (40 S&W DAO). Plus any TSW versions.

To one of the other earlier questions/posts in this thread- you will note that there are several variations to the 3913 frame style.

The 3913 LS or "Lady Smith" (this will usually be engraved on the right side of the slide) has that nice tapered shape as does the 3913 NL if memory serves me right. I've heard that NL stands for "New Look" and also I've seen it as "Non-LadySmith". Not sure which is correct!

There is another style that is slightly more squared off in front of the trigger guard. I think these are usually just marked 3913, but it seems like some of the more tapered ones are occasionally marked this way. All of the 3913's I've seen have the rounded trigger guards, unlike a lot of the early 5906's, etc.

The 4014 I just bought has the frame with the shape that is more squared off like the 3913, and also has the rounded trigger guard.

Really of any compact single stack compact 9's out there, the only two that I want to buy now will be a 3913 and a Kimber Solo. I think the 3913 is the best 9mm single stack of all time.

3913, an no its not for sale. She's been a constant companion for over 20yrs. Everyone so has mentioned they are hard to find, expensive when found, and not to many folks who once they get there hands on one, want to give it up. The only thing I regret not getting is a CS9 with ambi safety as a bug to her.

I have to ask. HOW did you get a 3913 with the bobbed hammer? Is this a Performance Shop alteration?

Thanks!
