I picked up this gun(new) in August 2010 ran about 1500 rounds through it (using CCI standard velocity). some of the problems: stove piping, more often than not it will not discharge chambered round, and that round has to be removed manually, at times the slide does not fully cycle(space of a thumb nail between slide and receiver) and last but not least the firing pin block moves side to side. needless to say for the money spent I'm not impressed with the craftsmanship. This gun is back in the hands of s&w. I'm not sure if this gun when performing up to it's rep will out shoot my 617.I hope I'm wrong.

I had the same problem with an "A" series model 41. Took it to my local smith and he thought (as I did) something was really wrong with it. I told him to go ahead and order a recoil spring for it. So he ordered one and that fixed it. The new spring was about a quarter inch longer than the one I took out of it. I have put 200 rounds of different types of standard velocity rounds through her without one hitch. I havent tried to match the accuracy against any of my other guns, but will say it seems to hold its own. Good luck with yours, everything Ive heard about the new 41 is they do shoot well.

My 41 out of Houlton, Maine is a sweet shooter and a very reliable .22. I always shoot CCI mini-mags and it has never let me down. I would NEVER dream of trying to shoot "Thunderbolts" or " Wildcats" through it. I have put some German Match ammo through it and am absolutely pleased with the performance and accuracy. It has put some darn good game in the pan. Try to stay with some good, consistent ammo and give it a chance. CCI is good, but try the hotter stuff. If you don't care for it after that, send it to me and I'll send you a 4" Colt Woodsman from 1968. Good Luck and good shooting....

I'm pleased with my M41. First 200 rounds I had 6 or so stovepipes/FTE. Then I started wiping the first round in the magazine with a cleaning patch that had a couple drops of gun oil on it. I did this for 800 rounds or so. Knock on wood, no problems since then.

Thought I would try to post a picture. I cant remember for sure how to do it. This is my S&W model 41. I also had a full box of vintage remington target ammo setting around so I thought it might look good in the picture also.
