Hard to answer your question without knowing exactly which firearm you are talking about.

S&W built several variations of short 45s.

If the firearm in question has the box, provide us with the 6 digit product code
and someone can probably tell you quite a bit about the variation you are looking at.

There were 2 or 3 runs a firearm known as the Shorty 45. I am guessing this is the
one you are referring to, but perhaps not

There was one run of a firearm known as the Shorty 45 Mk2

There were 1 or 2 runs a firearm known as the the 45CQB

There were 2 or 3 runs a firearm known as the 45 Recon

I am sure there are more variations that I can not recall off the top of my head.

the semi looks like the first picture and says shorty 45 at the end of the slide and i think it is stainless with some parts being aluminum if i remember what he told me,i know it's a performance center one, there was no case so i can't look on it for the product codes.thanks for the info.

There is also a Shorty 45 fixed Novak rear with a single side decocker lever too.

if the case is missing, that will bring the price down.

Grinder is you number expert.

Prices fluctuate......deals for clean with all stuff around 700. I have seen NIB for well over a grand.

Shorty 45s had fixed sights. The firearm pictured is a Shorty 45 Mk2 and has the
adjustable sights.

The Shorty 45 came out in the mid 90s. It was a Distributor Exclusive offering from
Lew Horton. I do not recall how many were produced.

If I were looking to buy, I tend to agree with SW CQB 45 as to purchase price.
However, I can tell you that I would not part with mine for $1000. I like it too much.

FWIW, the version of the S&W Standard Catalog that I have doesn't list much information about the Shorty 45 Mark II, but what it does say is this:

Product code 170088: 3.5" MK II adjustable sights, ambidextrous safety, 1997.

Description of the Shorty 45 includes "hand fitted titanium barrel bushing, oversize frame and side rails, match grade barrel, 20 LPI precision-checked front strap, stainless slide and aluminum frame, single- or double-action hand honed by the Performance Center, "SFF" serial number prefix. Produced for Lew Horton."

My S&W Standard Catalog doesn't list a value range, but what the other posters here have said is good advice.:)

I believe there were only 500 of the Shorty 45 and they were made in 1996. That being the one with the Novak fixed sights. At least I hope so, because I have one.

Oh Man! Now you guys gave me something else to look for and must have one of these. Don't be affraid of the short barreled .45's I have a Carry12 Para Ordnance and it shoots ragged holes at 25' all day long. Buy it, you'll love it. I own 4 S&W 9mm auto's and they never FTFeed or FTFire. I re-spring mine once I buy a used one but that's just me. You will fall in love so be prepared.

i will be seeing and talking to my freind again today, i will find out everything i can about it and let you guys know,he wants 700.00 for it,and will not come down on price,i guess i could later find case and paperwork to make it complete.thanks to all.

$700 for a Shorty 45, even without the box, is a pretty fair deal IMO.

My Shorty 45 MKII rivals my Colt Gold Cup for accuracy.......and is more reliable. Good luck! Regards 18DAI

well i picked up my 45 shorty.i am happy i think i got a nice one.it is marked 45 shorty mk.2,serial #SFF1018,it did come in the black case with all papers, product code is 170088.it is like new and has 3 performance center mags.it has fixed sights with another set of sights in the case.

My 2 Cents

The price is right on line with what they bring. You did great. IF in a moment of some type of weakness or mental collapse or you find you just don't like it ( for some Reason) PM me will pay more to you than you did. They are THAT GOOD.. You can buy Plastic all day long. One of these is rare under 800-1000 in pristine condition. You did good Grasshopper.

$700 is a damn good price, box or not. Congrats!!!
Just bought this Shorty back in November. Previous owner put Trijicon sights which have faded. I'll order some original style Novacs when i get around to it. It came with 2 mags with different style bottoms.
