Love my used 4566. This is my first .45 ACP and it's a tank. I did have to take the rail off. Works great in a Fobus SG2 holster now.

Rail was simple to remove with pistol disassembled. Center punch to rivets, drill slowly, rivets fall out.

Why on earth would you want to remove the rail??

Too many helpful items can fit on that ;)

Getting towards the ancient side, I'm appreciateing lasers a heck of a lot more these days ;)

Good ridence, I say.

Agreed!

Just need to erase the holes now;)

Why on earth would you want to remove the rail??

Because ,speaking for myself, I commute to work on an interstate rather then a MH-60 helicopter.

I have no need for adding to a company's accessory revenue stream-err, lights and lasers and would accordingly restore a 3rd Gen dustcover afflicted with the vestigial rail to its proper form.

+1 to the OP.

Hurled the first time I saw a rail on a 3rd Gen, back when they first debuted. Shortly after, MANY handguns came with a rail and the pit in my stomach grew. At long last, some schmuck actually went ahead and put them on a 1911, too.

Hideous and in my world... beyond useless. An abomination.

This thread is one small step for man... one giant leap for mankind.

Sharp! From just the one angle, looks like it was meant to be that way.

mitchjt that may be the best looking 4566 I've ever seen. VERY nice!

Too bad they won't make one like that. Regards 18DAI

Oh my GOD!!
I can't believe you removed your "M rail.

However will you install one of these?

What will you do when you run out of ammo while fighting the zombie hoardes?

My 4566 came with night sights but NO rail.
I like it better that way.

My Ruger SR9 came with a factory rail and I like it fine that way, even though I don't use the rail.

1911s, 3rd Gen Smiths, Beretta 92s, and Taurus PT92s look horrible with a rail.

Love the sarcasm! Couldn't have said it better

I'm actually serious about the lasers, tho.
Used to think WTH? about 'em, then I attended a nifty Crimson Trace tent event at a gun show...ever since then, I love 'em!!

I like lasers. i just wish they didn't affect my available choice of holsters.

I probably will get one of the pistol bayonets, just 'cause.
At bad breath distance, a sharp blade on the end of your pistol would make it harder for a bad guy to take your pistol from you.
Then again, 9 rounds of .45 HPs to the chest and face will also make that a difficult task for him.

Not sure if the inherent flex in a nylon pistol frame would make it better or worse for pistol whipping a violent felon.

If this was a few months back, there was someone looking for a rail so I sent them my old one-ba

Actually I've been looking for a rail for a 5906TSW to restore it to original spec, so yeah - if OP is willing to part with his, this may be serendipity :D

I dunno. Given the vehement language I'm seeing, I suspect he may have melted it into slag, ground the slag into dust, then scattered the dust to the four winds such that The Abomination would never return. :(

:D

LOL, you may be right, or he might have gotten SERIOUS about destroying it :P
