I was wondering if anybody can help me out with this question I have. I currently own a S&W 460XVR 8 3/8 inch barrel and I want to put a scope on it for deer hunting in the northeast, but I have been looking at the 460 performance center with a 10.5 inch barrel and was wondering if I should trade in the one I currently have for the performance center model. Does anyone have any experience with these 2 revolvers and will I see better accuracy out of the performance center model. Shots of 100 yards are very common on the property I hunt. I didn't know if I would see any difference in the two models. Thank you for any help with this.

Honestly the deer wont see any difference. The PC gun will most likely have a better trigger.

The Leupold 1x4 handgun scope works really well.

I hope the deer you haunt are large. A friend shot a white-tail here at about 60 yards with his S&W 460XVR. The round went full length from the front right shoulder and out the left rear. The deer was like a bag of jelly. There was no salvageable meat.

I have a 460 XVR with an 8 3/8 barrel and my friend has the 10 inch PC model. My standard non PC gun is more accurate. I really do believe the PC rating is not worth it. Besides, the 10 inch XVR is just way too big. The 8 3/8 is too big. I think 7.5 would have been perfect.

I recenlty bought a 627 PC 8-shot .357 mag. The barrel was crooked from day one and shot 8-10 inches left at 10 yards..!! It is currently back at S&W. My old 686 with over 20,000 rounds is a tack driver, go figure..

I am going back to the 44mag for hunting. I have used a 454casull for a few years but it is way overkill for deer. The gun in general is too heavy to carry long distances and I down loaded my 454 ammo so why do I want to carry all this extra weight for a gun that shoots 44mag spec?? I carried a M29 for years and it was a joy. Dead is dead and the good old 44mag will drop a deer just as fast.

I could not agree more. I love the 460 XVR but the good ole .44 Mag is the MOST versatile handgun hunting round. In fact, if I could only have one handgun, it would be a .44 Mag.
