S & W 5906

As others have said a very nice pistol in every way except for the weight. I have carried mine in a Don Hume IWB holster. As heavy as it is I'm sure it's lighter than my 40 caliber 3rd generation 4046.

I love the 5906, I shoot IDPA with mine and some three gun. As Miami JBT said, it's a really good trigger for riding the reset, especially after a trip back to the factory for the 3rd Gen action tune. (Obviously kydex is available.) They are a tremendous bargain currently.

The $379 OTD is not a bad price if you have inspected the gun and it is good both nechanically and cosmetically. The $299 guns from CDNN are pretty nice, but generally need new grips to be nice cosmetically. In addition you have about $15 shipping + whatever your FFL charges.

Good:

Everything, including the weight, I like a heavy gun!

Bad:

Nothing at all.

After I got my 5906, I bought a 4506 to go along with it.

Both are police trade ins. The 5906 came from Puerto Rico and shows almost no sign of use. The 4506 came from somewhere else, but other than a badge number on a card I found inside the case, I have no idea what PD it came from. I'm guessing TX, since I got it from down there. It's almost in as nice shape as the 5906, except the grips are a little more worn.

After shooting my 5906 a couple times, I decided I liked it so much better than the G19, I sold the Glock.......no looking back!

I'm no expert, but I really like mine. I do find it a little heavy for concealed carry, but it's really not too bad. I absolutely love shooting it. Mine was a police trade-in. Other than the worn grips, it's in great shape. If I could go back in time, I'd buy it again.

5906

You people talked me into it. Mine is on the way from CDNN.

I love mine as well. The weight does not bother me as i have worn out/broken a comparitively light Taurus 92C while the 5906 with about the same number of rounds through it, just keeps shooting. with no sign of wear.

A few positives that may not have been mentioned.

1) Does very well with light target loads (mine: LRN 147 grainers)

2) Will not fire with the magazine removed.

3) Has never, not once, jammed on me.

4) It is a great gun for teaching new shooters. Both my 12 and 15 year olds shoot it regularly.

I have two and both are just great. One started suddenly failed to extract so its currently back at S&W getting fixed. Not sure what happened there. Probably wore it out

I love mine. I got three sets of grips when I bought it, including some crimson trace grips. It is a great shooter. My preference is a heavier gun as I also like to carry a variety of 1911's. You will not be unhappy with your purchase.

The 5906 is probably one of the best 9mm semi-autos ever made. I especially like the TSW series. They are a little heavier but they shoot like a custom gun. No cons, except for the weight which is a moot point if it isn't a CC weapon.

Just wanted to check to see if those who ordered the CDNN 5906's got the newer models with rounded trigger guards, and/or fixed or adjustable sights?

Here is a picture of one from CDNN. Fixed sights.

The downside of these is that they are habit forming like this.

The 5906 series is a great semi-auto. They are reliable, accurate and one of the safest pistols I have ever handled. I bought the lighter alloy 5903 a year ago. It is my best semi-auto. It is a definite keeper. You can't go wrong buying one.
Good luck and here is my 5903.

Here's the one I got from CDNN a few weeks ago. It's in excellent condition and even came with new Hogue grips.

Are they making 5906 TSW's again???

I just put a brand new 5906TSW on layaway at Cheaper Than Dirt's retail store. It's not cheap at $725 but it is brand new and the salesman said they are producing them again.

Probably a PD over run. I think they are still making them for departments, not for individuals, could be wrong.

Got mine from CDNN a few weeks ago as well (serial # RJF11xx.) Needed a good cleaning but in overall very good shape. The Hogue grips were pretty much brand new. Took it to the range and 150 flawless rounds later, I have to decide on wether to get another 5906 or the 6906 that CDNN has for sale for $329?
