I just recieved my 627-0. It doesn't have "model of 1989" printed on the barrel so I assume it was a later batch...BEK serial number. I installed Meprolight night sights and replaced the factory mainspring and rebound spring with Wolf standard power ribbed mainspring and 13 lb rebound spring. measurd on a Lyman digital scale: DA over 12 lbs..SA 3.02 lbs. Does this seem OK for carry? Also I was wondering abour the top strap. It has the old square sight leaf, but underneath it's drilled and tapped like newer revolvers. Do you think it could take the Cylinder and Slide extreme duty fixed rear sight?

Hello Jones. I just pulled out my 627-0 and looked. BEK45xx serial #, it is roll stamped S&w 357 MAGNUM model of 1989 on the right side of the barrel. Don't know why yours isn't.

Underneath the full size square rear sight leaf mine is not drilled and tapped. Don't know why yours is.
The 627-1 has the round rear sight and is factory drilled.

Without pictures it didn't happen.

If you're carrying this monster you're a bigger man than I, it's a lot of steel to lug around.

I have pics, but I don't know how to attatch them. Anyway...It resembles the foreground 627 in your first picture. I own that same S&W book by the way. It also has a trigger stop installed and Hogue monogrips instead of the hardwood grips. The holes in the topstrap seem to line up with the factory holes on newer revolvers.

That is basically the pull weight you would get with the original springs. I don't think I would use a 13# rebound spring with a standard power mainspring because the trigger return might be poor.
