I just traded for a S&W 629-1 from a person who bought it in the 1980's. He shot one box and put into the back of his gun safe and forgot about it for nearly 30 years. After cleaning out his safe, he found it and had even forgot whether his 44 magnum was a Ruger or a S&W. In any event, he traded it to me. As expected, it's in perfect condition.

According to John Taffin's book, "44 Magnums", S&W added an "endurance package" to the later 629-3 and 629-4 versions to improve reliability and strengthen the 29 and 629's original design. Does anyone know if S&W offers an endurance package upgrade for the 629-1? If so, would you do it if you had a 629-1?

Thank you in advance.

I have a 6" 629-1 and never considered the endurance package but I shoot only target loads through it. I guess if you expect to pound it with hunting-level loads all the time the update might be worthwhile.
