I'm relatively new to SW, but a few years back, the 638 was my 1st - hate the lock, but love the gun - perfect carry IMO:

[lang=da]Question for 638 Bodyguard owners: I'm settling in on this as my CCW gun and have found a model with a 2 1/2 in barrel. Will the extra length assist with ejection and does it help with muzzle-flip and accuracy?

My plan downstream is to remove the ISL and plug the hole for a clean look.[/lang]

Shockwave, The longer barrel will make case ejection a little easier, but the revolver will not be as easy to pocket carry.

I got them from Eagle Grips
S&W J Frame Round Butt Rosewood Panels Smooth Eagle Grips Inc.

They come in Rosewood or Ebony. Those and a T Grip work great. I didn't care too much for the rubber boot grips.

Thank you, Heifer - I was hoping that would be the case. Since my other carry alternatives would be one of the 686s I've got (4 and 6") I think I'll find the J-frame to be a breeze, even with the slightly longer barrel. Just wanted to be sure my thinking was right in that there are advantages to this model worth the tradeoff.
