S&W 9mm shield

I left mine locked back for about 5 days and it made a huge difference. After that it was no problem to operate the slide.

I just got a shield 9mm a couple days ago also. I haven't shot it yet but I have the same problem. I honestly don't think the spring is the problem. Yes it's a very stiff spring and hard to slide but that's not the problem with it not locking. I can slide it back as far as it will go but it's just shy of reaching the "pin" that locks it. It's like it hits something solid or just bottoms out so to speak. I can mess with it for a little bit and for no rhyme or reason it just goes back to where it should be. It'll work fine for a while and again for some strange reason it doesn't slide back far enough. Spring tension doesn't have anything to do with it. At least my experiences so far. I should also mention that I'm new here, hi guys nice to meet you!

As I said before. Mine was very stiff at first and I also had issues getting it to lock without an empty mag. After a couple hundred rounds it functions smoothly every time. I must have gotten stronger.

It will get much easier after you put some rounds through it. I had the same problem...made me start to question my manhood.but after 100 rounds it now locks a hole lot easier. I have a sd9ve that is a hole lot easier to lock to the rear. Hope it works out for you

I bought three and that was my mistake. One was for my daughter and two for me. I have no trouble racking a 6906 and was not expecting the Shield to be so hard.
Both me and my daughters arm strength just will not do it. I have tried all the different methods of racking. I finally got it racked and left it for three weeks. No difference.
I gave one to my grandson and great grandson and sold the other at a loss. Bought us a G2C a piece and have had no problems with functioning or racking.

I have over 4000 rounds through my Shield 2.0. The slide isn't easy to lock back, but it got easier and/or I got used to it.
Absolutely love the pistol. Every time the "new thing/more capacity" gun hits the presses I get the urge, but then just go out and shoot my Shield. Never a problem with it. Not one.

Shield is tough little pistol need to fire several hundred rounds to break in . I have 9mm Shield bought few years ago and more accurate with it than M&P 9 FS. I did have trouble racking slides after surgery that's why keep a revolver handy.
