I recently came into ownership of a S&W 1911 custom .45acp. As with most new acquisitions, there were a couple issues that I had problems with. It should be mentioned that this is not my first S&W nor my only 1911.

After not getting past the problems, I emailed the fine people at S&W in which I detailed the problem I was experiencing. Two days later, I received an email telling me how to correct the problem AND asking for my address so they could send me some extra items for the gun for FREE.

They additionally stated that if I could not correct the problems using their solutions, to send the gun back to them and they would correct it for FREE.

This says a lot for S&W. They did not know I bought the gun new or used. They did not know if it had been shot a million rounds or not at all. What they knew was they had a customer with problems on a S&W and they were going to make it right.

I admire that and it is an American company using American labor. I like that a lot.

except for their politically motivate caving in and making built in locks on guns, they are the best manufacturer customer service ive had to deal with....the best.

I am not sure that they caved on this issue. They dang sure did when joining the Clinton bandwagon several years ago.

The internal lock issue likely originated from the potential for lawsuits and the pressures applied from the anti gun groups.

I am not a fan of the internal lock either. As with many other things, it is a simple matter to ignore and not use.

My biggest complaint against S&W would be their switching to building more plastic guns and less real metal guns.

whats funny is that they are following the Glock model so to speak with "plastic" guns, yet theyre affraid to follow Glock with the no built in lock guns, Glock by the way survived the klinton scare just fine....must be that stubborn Duetchland blood lingering from the days when that region was proud and could back it up.

It should be remembered that Glock is a foreign based company. Lawsuits against them is expensive to file and complete. S&W is a domestic corporation and suits are cheap. It is a lot easier to whip your neighbor's rear than that of a person 6,000 miles away.

++ on Smith's customer service. I returned an early P22 with the "safety issues" in their UPS prepaid mailer on a monday for warranty service. It was back in my hands the following thursday.

They included a few free magazines in the box.

S&W sorely disappointed me and all their faithful customers during the Clinton 3rd Reich but, they are a "homey" and despite that setback, they still rank up their with Colt as far as I'm concerned.

I called them today and ordered some mag springs/followers, mainsprings and recoils springs for my two 3rd Gen pistols and gave them their part numbers for each. the guy seemed impressed I knew the part numbers and didn't have to look them up. I told him I had done some homework(with the help from a forum friend) and was ready. I only had the recoil spring from the 4506 back ordered but he indicated I'd receive it soon. No problem with any parts for the 4566TSW.

I wish they still made pistols like the 3rd Gen but I don't see that ever happening again. Polymer seems the wave of things that are and to come.

Two years ago I bought a used 1993 model 41 and it would never live up to the reputation that 41s are supposed to have, in fact some of the bullets were 'keyholing". A gunsmith found tool chatter marks in one of the lands. This defect apparently was there since the gun was new. I returned it to S&W and they replaced the barrel for free, even though I admitted that I was not the original purchaser. It shoots like a laser now!

Got my SW990L back a couple of weeks ago and was really pleased with their customer support. The problem was corrected and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another firearm from them. These folks are 100% in my book.
