Just read the latest write-up on the 30 Super Carry (30SC) in this month's American Rifleman.

It states that S&W is expected to be the 1st major manufacturer to release the cartridge, in the M&P series with both the Shield and EZ versions.

It would seem to me that, since one of the advantages of the cartridge is an increased capacity in a 9mm sized pistol, their new CSX would be a shoo-in to also be chambered for the new round. Wondering if anyone has heard anything along this line?

Also, I respectfully request that you please do not respond if you only intend to dump on the 30SC; there are plenty of threads elsewhere already doing this, and not everyone is opposed to innovations and new developments.

I had the opportunity to handle, but not shoot, two EZs in .30 SC. Compared to the 9EZs I've seen the triggers were hard and gritty. Not exactly ideal for a model marketed to those with limited hand strength.

The concept is worth consideration, but I'm not sold on the execution. Maybe the CSX would have been a better choice for S&W's initial offering in this caliber.

I like the Idea of the 30sc. I will buy one just to satisfy my curiosity. As soon as I can find one in an LGS.

.30 Super intrigues me more as a field cartridge than a carry round, I think it would make a dandy short range (50 yards) vermin, varmint, small game cartridge.

As for carry, c'mon we already got 9mm, .40, .45, .357 SIG, and .380. And though it may appeal to the "two more bullets in the mag" crowd, I wanna see what it actually does on the streets first.

I agree that innovation rules the roost as far as sales are concerned. Reinventing the wheel? No, but there are some that will buy it, without a doubt. I like the idea of it but I'm not buying one.

They, the ammo makers, must be pushing it hard. I saw some ammo this past weekend, mostly 9mm. Two 38 Special, no other revolver rounds BUT they had the 30 Super Carry...

I think it'll be a lot like the .327 mag. It'll be released, have some scenarios where the use case makes sense, but largely fall by the wayside and dissappear. In fifteen or twenty years, some shooters will, just as with the .327 mag, claim it was the best thing since sliced bread and buy up or drive up the prices on the old, previously ignored 30SC guns. Then we'll have posts asking why oh why Smith stopped making whichever pistol in .30SC.

I'm just not enthused enough to start supporting yet another caliber. I got rid of my one .380 in order to make that more simple. I still have handguns in .22LR, .22WMR. .38 Special, 9mm, and 45ACP. I think that's enough.

And yes, I have carried the .22WMR for self defense. Not often, but it weighs about nothing so it's good for social occasions where the likelihood is low.

I hope the CSX does come out in .30 SC. I will defintely give it a try.

I like to have as many different calibers as possible. During the recent outbreak of Chickenlittle-itus if there was any ammo on the shelf I generally had something to shoot it in. Once there were only two lonely boxes of ammo on the long shelf at Cabelas. Oh yeah! .32 ACP! Come to Papa. Same thing one day with .357 Sig - it was under a big hand-lettered sign that said: THIS WILL NOT WORK IN YOUR REVOLVER. Lately .40 is everywhere and relatively cheap. I scammed a box of .38/40 that some gunshop found in the back room. I even found a lonely box of .30 Luger! I've got guns for them all.

So, the .30 SC will find a home with me. I bet once the ammo situation is fully back to normal (save it, gloom and doomers) that more guns will come out for it. It isn't geared toward the average forum member here and I suspect it will be around a while.

According to the Federal website, it shoots about like a 9mm, at least on the gun end. I carry 9 rounds in my 3rd gen 908 and am quite happy with the package. Are two extra rounds worth investing in a new cartridge? For now, no. In the futrue? Maybe, but doubtful.
