I spotted this Smith&Wesson motif custom Oak case on eBay a couple of weeks ago for a buy it now price of $600. I watched it for a while and was able to get it for $375. The gentleman I bought it from told me his father (who had passed) was a wood worker, and Smith&Wesson collector, and had built this case for his 6" "N" frame (629), but it can and will be used for something else by me. The case has a lift up hinged top, a drop down front, with 3 drawers. The case came loaded with numerous S&W knives, belt buckles handcuffs, cleaning accessories and even an S&W watch. The seller even threw in a Supica book, S&W safety glasses, S&W headphone/hearing protectors and a History of S&W DVD. I know this is not a genuine S&W product, however this is a high quality well made case. What do you think, did I get a good deal?

Being a carpenter I can tell you that you did very well. You could not buy the materials and build that case for $375. Nevermind all of the accoutrements that the seller threw in. I would not be surprised if he put at least a week into making that case.

Although as you say "not a factory item" it was still built by a very caring S&W enthusiast. Should you tire of it, I will gladly give you your money back any time. I have a very nice 1951 USRA Trophy Gun that would look great in there.:D

I agree that you got more than your money's worth. Excellent find. Good to know it is in the hands of someone who appreciates it.

I saw that case on the bay. Thought then that whoever got it would be pleased. I know I would be! Definitely based on the Gerstner design, which is of course a machinist's chest.

Being an amateur woodworker myself I can see that this case was well thought out and expertly crafted. A great find indeed.

How about posting some pictures of the other drawers and some close- ups of the details? How was the rubber counter mat incorporated into the fold down door? Thanks, Bob

The cut down counter mat was inlaid and glued into the wood. I guess I made the right decision to buy this based on all the positive comments I have received. Enjoy the photos.

Thanks for sharing! The sum of the parts is greater than the sum of the whole....

Just an FYI, the buckle in the lower right hand corner of the drawer is not an "official" S&W buckle or authorized by S&W buckle. How do I know, I own one too...:(
